Pelosi: GOP doesn't have the votes

Source: The Hill

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sent her colleagues a letter Thursday afternoon saying it’s "clear" that House Republicans do not have the votes to pass a $1.1 trillion spending package.

Shortly after coming out against the package in a speech on the House floor, the California Democrat thanked her troops for giving Democrats “leverage” to demand changes.

"This increases our leverage to get two offensive provisions of the bill removed: the bank bailout and big money for campaigns provision," Pelosi wrote, referring to the two Republican amendments that have fueled the Democrats' revolt.

"However you decide to vote in the end, I thank those who continue to give us leverage to improve the bill."

I hope Democrats in Congress take a really lonnnnnngggg look at provisions in this 'cromnibus' spending bill before moving on, even after the bank bailout and campaign provisions are removed.

to do with immigration are funded until March. (from what I understand).

I think Obama would rather take a couple of hits and have the gov't funded until September than the alternative.

5. These are not just hits. One is allowing the banksters to get bailouts again from taxpayers. And

the other is allowing more money from the rich into politics. Not just hits.

the SEC and another wall street watchdog agency, so I have to weight the pros and cons of each. I know if we lose the presidency in 2016 and don't retake the house or senate both of those provisions (and worse) will become law, so I'm weighing that as well.

Pelosi is saying Boehner doesn't have the votes right now for the bill, so he will either have to compromise with the far right republicans like Cruz or the Dems. I'm hoping he goes with the Dems and gives up the Dodd-Frank and election provision but keeps the additional money for enforcement. That would be sweet.

be saved this way. What has to be done with that is put pressure on that Australian company that wants to mine copper there. Enough pressure that they will hold off.

Leverage time..... like the Republicans has been trying to beat us down for years... and now they're coming and begging us for our votes.

VOTE DENIED until *ALL* Republican-inspired pork is removed and replaced with true Democratic investments.

And end all subsidies to O&G to corral their profits. We no longer need to subsidize their profits.

And a one-time 100% increase on COLA for 2015, meaning everyone who depends on SS will get double what they were currently getting before, moving them above cat-food level into decent-food level..

11. The reasons for the lack of a vote aren't entirely in our favor.

Boehner has a bit of a civil war on his hands at the moment. There is a contingent of the Republican party that wants to defund Obamacare and the amnesty offerings, and the omnibus bill continues funding for both through next October. In fact, by that time the amnesty offering will be a done deal, so if it's funded there won't be any stopping it ever.

The talking heads on hate radio have been waging a call in campaign over the last few days to tank the bill because they want those things defunded NOW. Sean Hannity apparently even called Boehner "the enemy" yesterday, and a "Democrat-lite" who need to be stripped of his position over the bill. Their listeners are waging a call-in campaign to convince Republicans in Congress to vote against the bill.

Might be a tactic to make GOPers more likely to negotiate since its not a compromise to "King Thug" Obama. Caving to an elderly white woman might be seen as not as bad to the Teabaggers.

based on 6 years of their behavior - anything that HE wants, they MUST do the opposite, even if it is something that they created, because they can't be seen agreeing with the "CommieNaziSocialist Kenyan 'Muslin'"!
