Senate to take up $1.1T bill to keep govt running

Source: AP-Excite

By ANDREW TAYLOR

WASHINGTON (AP) — It's now up to the Senate to pass a huge $1.1 trillion spending bill to keep the government running, but not before a battle between old school veterans and new breed freshmen such as tea partier Ted Cruz and Elizabeth Warren, a liberal with a national following.

The smart money's on old school types such as Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and GOP Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

The measure passed the House on Thursday after a day of drama but by a relatively comfortable 219-206 vote. The vote came after GOP leaders sent the House into a seven-hour recess to give the White House time to lobby Democrats angry that the measure weakens rules on trading risky financial products known as derivatives and allows wealthy donors to pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into political parties.

In the end, 57 House Democrats voted for the bill, including two of the party's top three leaders. Democrats argued that there was too much good in the bill to scuttle it and get a worse deal next year when Republicans seize control of the Senate.

with a lot of Democrats passed the bill which sold the American public down the river.
Get geared for another repeat of 2008 only this time it will probably be worse.
Don't forget about the pension loss, either.
Not too many good things in this spending bill, but a whole lot of bad ones.
Really disappointed that the President was calling for its passage.

Talks like a Dem in speeches, behind the scenes he pushes Dems to vote against workers and for the 1% taking over America. Behind the scenes he pushes for TPP wich would gut labor and environmental laws and doom the American worker even more than what's happening now.

could out Tea Party the others. Democrats in Texas have no real money to compete with the wash of corporate money the Republicans get here in Texas. The National Democratic Party just phones it in when it comes to Texas, insuring that generations of Texans only hear the RW message. That is how you get a Ted Cruz and Louie Gomert!

They cut the EPA some more. It already was so under budgeted that it cannot monitor all of the oil refineries in the area. It is a green light for these companies to continue to break the laws and grossly exceed the pollution standards. Cutting the EPA budget doesn't change the laws, just enforcement. Congress and Obama are telling them to poison us all they want in violation of the laws while Eric Garner is murdered for allegedly violating a law whose punishment is a ticket!

1. I am not new to DU. Just don't post a lot.
2. How did you construe that I was joining up with the likes of Cruz and Cornyn?
3. I did not think what I posted was in the least bit humorous.
4. Why did you put the word liberal inside quotes? You don't think I am liberal? Got news for you there!
5. If I have misconstrued your post, my apologies.

Last night we in Maryland got a unanimous vote on a budget bill that greed is more important than retirees, FDIC saving accounts, EPA, Campaign spending, NRLB, Postal system and the union, CFPB, and other programs to help the American citizen when they, (all 8 led by)
Steny Hoyer--minority whip ----democrat ----- $195,000 salary from taxpayers
Chris Van Hollen----democrat --------$195,000 salary from taxpayers
John Delaney-------democrat-------$174,000 salary from taxpayers
Donna Edwards-----democrat--------$195,000 salary from taxpayers
Andy Harris (doctor) -----republican -- Club for Growth ------$174,000 salary from taxpayers
C. Ruppersberger----democrat-------$174,000 salary from taxpayers
John Sarbanes-----democrat-------$174,000 salary from taxpayers
Elijah Cummings-----democrat-------$195,000 salary from taxpayers

And as a side note we had the president push for this bill
Barack Obama------democrat----------$400,000 salary from taxpayers

These 8 individuals took 15:00 minutes to vote and in my opinion will further the decimation of citizens (poor, middle class, elderly) that are struggling in this state, and elsewhere and they will come before the cameras on shows like the Ed Show, Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes, Andrea Mitchell, and others to say, that the full faith of the credit of the country was at stake---and the seniors and the military and other programs would have stopped and would have been shut down, yes but it is hogwash, the bill or budget would have been paid for, they can put anything they want on a credit card anything and pay for it.
No------the country now has a big blank sign on it saying "FOR SALE" to any bidder and that collectively the support for corporate greed and lobbyists were more important.
As a side note to this rant if these (8) had they voted NO (Nay) the bill would have been in trouble, and the republicans would have had to come back to the table and some of these riders could have been removed.
But a vacation, another one in the series (224 days), was more important, and the last minute shenanigans was more important with the 15 minutes it took to put a bill out on floor of Congress, without any committee hearings or discussion but and for the firms on Wall Street and there Ponzi scheme trading practices that crashed the country 5 years ago.
