Chrysler to recall about 288K Ram pickup trucks

Source: AP-Excite

By TOM KRISHER

DETROIT (AP) — Chrysler is recalling about 288,000 older Ram pickup trucks in North America and elsewhere because the rear axle can seize or the drive shaft can fall off.

The recall covers Ram 1500 pickups from the 2005 model year.

Chrysler says in documents posted Friday by U.S. safety regulators that the rear-axle pinion nut can come loose. That can cause problems that make the trucks spin out of control.

The recall comes after an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that began in June.

ALL pickup trucks that are not being used for a legitimate reason. And I do not mean carrying one fat butt to and from the office.
Even though these behemoths use less fuel than before, they are generally unstable, unless loaded with goods, and pose a threat to people who drive normal sedans and coupes. Get rid of those SUVs while you are at it. (Did you know that the REAL meaning of SUV is stupid, useless vehicle?)

While I'd probably never buy a dodge, I hate to see folks having trouble out of their American made pickups.

It's not like this is a fix that's going to cost more than five bucks per vehicle, or take more than ten minutes...remove one nut, remove one bolt, put better bolt and nut in its place, insert cotter pin, return vehicle to customer.
