Dems Rally Around Muslim Congressman

Source: TDB/NPR

Top Democrats rallied around Rep. Andre Carson of Indiana, following online criticism that the congressman should not be allowed to sit on the House Intelligence Committee because he is a Muslim. Carson, one of only two Muslims in Congress, was appointed to the panel charged with overseeing the American intelligence community earlier this week.

"I am deeply disturbed that since his appointment to the committee, Congressman Carson has been subject to vicious, anti-Muslim attacks online and in social media, questioning his loyalty to our country solely because of his faith. These un-American and unfounded smears have no place in our national discourse and are contemptible," said Rep. Adam Schiff, the top-ranking Democrat on the committee.

Carson has national security qualifications: he worked full time in law enforcement, and was in the Indiana Department of Homeland Security's anti-terrorism unit.

"We should not tolerate anyone being targeted or denied opportunities because of their religious beliefs," said Rep. Jerrold Nadler, a Democrat from New York.

Indiana Democrat André Carson Will Become First Muslim on Congressional Intelligence Committee

By Ben Mathis-Lilley

CNN reports that Indiana Rep. André Carson, a Democrat, will become the first Muslim to serve on a congressional intelligence committee. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi announced the move at a caucus meeting Tuesday, the network says.

Carson represents Indiana’s 7th District, which encompasses much of the city of Indianapolis. He converted to Islam at some point in the late 1990s and succeeded his grandmother, Julia Carson, in Congress by winning a 2008 special election after she died in 2007. He won re-election in 2014 easily with 54.7 percent of the vote to his Republican opponent's 41.8 percent.

The first Muslim to become a congressional representative was Minnesota Democrat Keith Ellison, who won election in 2006 and continues to serve that state’s 5th District, which includes Minneapolis and some of its suburbs. Ellison and Carson are the only Muslims in the House or Senate.

Sandy Rios: House Should Expel Muslim Congressman For 'Islamic Terrorist Connections'

Submitted by Brian Tashman on Friday, 1/16/2015 1:00 pm

On her radio program yesterday, the American Family Association’s Sandy Rios alleged that President Obama, whom she believes is a secret Muslim, is trying to bring more Muslim immigrants into the U.S. as part of his plan of “radically transforming the United States of America.” According to Rios, “the president prefers, defers to the Islamic world, he defers to the Islamic extremists in the Muslim world.” Rios then launched into a tirade against Rep. André Carson, repeating her contention that the House should ban the Indiana Democrat from serving on the House Intelligence Committee for the serious crime of being Muslim. After false claiming that two groups that donated to Carson, the Islamic Society of North America and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, are tied to terrorists, Rios said that Carson should be booted out of Congress for “his terrorist connections, his Islamic terrorist connections.” “This man, André Carson, does not belong on the House Intelligence Committee, he doesn’t even belong in Congress, this is disgraceful,” she said. “André Carson is a dangerous person.”

An associate of David Duke, naw this would be a warm loving Christian man, you know by the people he is tied to, did not trust him a few years ago and less since I learned of the company he keeps.

The AFA is run by a father/son team, both named Wildmon.

They picked up some notoriety during the 1980's, when they accused the cartoon character of Mighty Mouse of sniffing cocaine.
(It was obvious he was sniffing flowers)

Today their more vocal and more notorious spokesperson is Bryan Fischer, who has his own radio show.

I noticed these wannabe fascists love putting "family" "liberty" or "patriot" in their organizations' names, like the way the Nazi Germans called themselves "socialist," fascist Japan called their empire the "Co-Prosperity Sphere,) and communist countries love calling themselves "Peoples'."

but Carson has proven himself as a decent public servant with sound judgement. He is more than qualified to be on that committee.

Also, America shares intelligence with the evil bastards in the Saudi Arabian government. I trust Carson much more than them.

Geez. With this eliminationist attitude about Muslims - no Muslims serving on national security, no Muslims in my backyard - how can ANY decent human being identify in the USA as conservative? HOW?

They are stupid. Minnesota's former Governor Arne Carlson was a conservative, thoughtful and a concerned citizen. There are those on the other side of the fence with whom we can disagree and work towards common goals.

Idiots and stupid people blindly follow a tea party agenda. They are mentally undeveloped, selfish and fearful.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and all the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

Seems pretty simple. And those maligning Rep. Carson are ignorant douchebags and do not deserve to be in Congress.
