Only in politics do people greet bad news so enthusiastically, Obama said before a crowd of students.
You pay more and theyre licking their chops? And you can bet since its an election year, theyre already dusting off their three-point plans for $2 gas. Ill save you the suspense: step one is drill, step two is drill, and step three is keep drilling.
We heard the same thing in 2007 when I was running for president, he continued. We hear the same thing every year. Weve heard the same thing for 30 years.

(10,707 posts)...only its not so popular on this side so its hard for Obama to take credit, and hard for anyone to give him credit. Yet, there it is -
Basically, its been years since there's been any unemployment in the US oil sector - production is up, jobs are up, associated tax revenues are up, regulations haven't hurt the business side of it, and overall its been a bright sector that has helped lift many areas of the economy into recovery.
Long term, its a dead-end, but for the time being (and though I get tired of the saying) "it is what it is".

(74 posts)The main cause of high gas prices is speculation. It doesn't matter where the oil comes from. If it came from a fountain in St Louis, it would still be sold at the price set by the criminals on Wall Street.
Call your Congress Critters and ask them to get rid of the Commodity Futures Trading Modernization Act. This is what made it legal to speculate on oil futures.

(36,392 posts)Big Oil threatened him over the Keystone veto. He should have taken that opportunity to tell the voters that any gas price hikes would be based on political threats, and nothing more. THen this current situation would play right into HIS hands instead of the Repukes. But as usual he chooses to play D. I wish he would hire some of Clinton's strategists

(12,287 posts)But I heard that Koch owns 62% of the oil business in U.S. - then I hear that deliveries to stations are being cut back (excuse is lack of sales) so stations now have shortages, which in turn create demand and higher prices. Then speculators make sure those higher prices go even higher.
May I suggest that the Koch brothers are "helping" the repubs in more ways than their PACS?
