PALAST:The Election was Stolen Here's How

Palast caught Republicans doing this in 2000. You would think as soon as Democrat's got control of the Justice Department back, this might have been on the agenda of things to fix.

How can Republicans do this stuff with impunity again and again, and Democrats don't even seem to care?

Before a single vote was cast, the election was fixed by GOP and Trump operatives.

Starting in 2013 – just as the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act – a coterie of Trump operatives, under the direction of Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State, created a system to purge 1.1 million Americans of color from the voter rolls of GOP–controlled states.

The system, called Crosscheck, is detailed in my Rolling Stone report,
“The GOP’s Stealth War on Voters,” 8/24/2016.

Crosscheck in action:
Trump victory margin in Michigan: 13,107
Michigan Crosscheck purge list: 449,922

Trump victory margin in Arizona: 85,257
Arizona Crosscheck purge list: 270,824

Trump victory margin in North Carolina: 177,008
North Carolina Crosscheck purge list: 589,393

2. There is some merit to this. But will anyone pursue it?

No one caused Clinton to fall 7-12 million votes short of what Obama achieved, but voter suppression is real, and this is the first election under the stripped-down Voting Rights Act.

And interestingly, Trump persuaded Clinton and much of the press to box themselves in with his "fixed election" rant, causing them to loudly proclaim that the voting system was fair and reliable, and that the peaceful transition of power was the most important thing.

Now she has conceded.

I remember Trump accusing Clinton of being "on drugs" at a debate, at precisely the time he was sniffling and head-jerking and throat-clearing like ... someone on drugs.

Was he projecting? And did it work?

They always announce what they are going to do. The been doing this the entire time. Obama gets elected he is popular but no coat tails for him. Not enough democrats in senate or house to do anything. So maybe the election was not rigged. I'm sorry all those popular votes for Hillary and no democratic senators or representatives except a token few. BS.

She won those states, I'll believe it till the day I die. Our democracy is dead.

8. ...and whose fucking fault is this? All of these voter suppression stories have been well-publicized

for more than a decade since Bush was still in office, yet the Democrats have done NOTHING to combat the situation.

They even shot themselves in the foot RE voter registration by voting to defund ACORN, who registered millions of poor Democratic voters, because they were spooked buy Fox News yelling about those doctored videos that Breitbart and O'Keefe put out.

Oh wait, I'm sorry. I'm not supposed to criticize the party establishment and their gross political negligence.

I need to put the blame squarely where it belongs: on people who voted for Jill Stein. (Never mind the fact that there were far more registered Democrats who voted for Trump than Stein or Johnson.)

More ex post facto attempts to justify a terribly run campaign. If she had won her core blue states, this would not have mattered.

Note I agree this should be addressed, but it is like. Blaming the refs for one bad call when the real reason you lost a game is because you fumbled the ball 5 times.

They are not mutually exclusive.

I argue we should focus on our own house as ultimately we have more control over that. But I recognize that is hard and painful. It is a lot easier to point to nefarious goings on than to self-reflect.

Until we can vote online, with a receipt texted/emailed to us confirming our vote, we'll never know if our votes were counted faithfully. Nobody should have to take off work to vote, or stand in line. No computer? Go to the library, post office, public school, fire hall, any public building. And no voting should be in a church! How did that happen? Remember, separation of church and state? We can bank online but we can't vote online? Crazy.
