Advertiser: we won't reinstate our ads with Rush Limbaugh, even though he's apologized
David Friend, CEO of the company Carbonite (which makes backup software), explains why his company won't be reinstating its advertising on the Rush Limbaugh show. Carbonite was one of the advertisers that pulled its Limbaugh dollars after the radio host described a law student a "slut" and a "prostitute" for testifying on the cost of contraception for students whose Catholic university wouldn't extend insurance coverage to reproductive control.
No one with daughters the age of Sandra Fluke, and I have two, could possibly abide the insult and abuse heaped upon this courageous and well-intentioned young lady. Mr. Limbaugh, with his highly personal attacks on Miss Fluke, overstepped any reasonable bounds of decency. Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.

(1,712 posts)The honorable position would have been to not advertise with the Gassbag all these years while he was spouting just as much mysogyny and hurling his usual slew of personal abuse. This CEO was just fine with someone who heaped hate speech that would harm his precious daughters, as long as it made him money. However, there has been sufficient outcry that he and all these other "conscientious" advertisers who flushed Rush know that there's better money elsewhere now that their gravy train is damaged goods. His daughters are nothing more to him than a convenient prop in his latest marketing and customer retention strategy, aimed at current and prospective customers.

In my book the dude did the right thing and his comment was eloquent.

(25,253 posts)1. Send this response to Rush's other sponsors as an example as to what they should do; and 2. reward Carbonite by patronizing them for their stand.
David Friend gets it.

(2,672 posts)All this really boils down to is Rush Limpbaugh (once again) took aim an ANY FEMALE who has the unmitigated gall to think she has a right in this country to speak out on issues that concern her. Women like her MUST BE MADE AN EXAMPLE of. They must be attacked, humiliated and crushed so as to be subjugated to man as the good lord and the founding fathers intended. It is the natural order of things.
This is far more of an attack on women than contraception and health care. This is an all out attack to send women back to the barefoot, pregnant, chained to the stove days. This is a time when men (like the state senator - {I forget which state} just shouted at a fellow senator {female dem}to "SHUT UP" told women to shut up (or else) and they did. Obedient Stepford Wives - that's what this is all about........care for and home school my children, cook my meals, clean my house, keep you mouth shut, spread your legs on command, oh, and smile.

(323 posts)... to see which advertisers will simply wait for some short period of time, and then run back into the arms of Rush and start up their ad campaigns again. Good for Carbonite.
