Donald Trump Finally Sounds Presidential. For 60 Minutes.

Donald Trump Finally Sounds Presidential. For 60 Minutes.

Government isn’t a speech, and he’s the same as he ever was—and with the same bad ideas for the country.

OK. There’s no denying that that was a better speech than any of us expected. Mind you, that’s because expectations were so crazy low. There was nothing in the speech about the size of his inaugural crowd (or the size of his anything else), nothing about the losers or fakers in the media, nothing about the failing New York Times, nothing about Arnold Schwarzenegger’s lousy ratings. He managed to sound, for the first time, like a real-life president of the United States.

He also did a better job than expected with respect to the human moments. He handled the tribute to William Ryan Owens, the Navy SEAL who was killed in the Yemen raid, much more deftly than I would have thought. Owens’s widow seemed to be moved, talking to her husband in the big upstairs. It was clear that his White House could sense that, after Owens’s father criticized Trump harshly over the weekend, they needed to change that story fast, and he did.

Whether it was complete cynicism or not, Trump changed it, through tonight’s visual. It will lessen the questions about the raid, although it shouldn’t, and that fact speaks to the anomaly at the center of the speech, which is that a lot of what he said in this speech constituted the opposite of what his administration has been doing in its first five weeks and what it’s going to do tomorrow and the next day and the next day.

Take, sticking with the way Trump used the audience members, the young woman in the wheelchair, Megan Crowley, who was diagnosed with a rare illness as an infant and wasn’t expected to live past age five. It was a heart-warming story, that her father fought for her and now at age 20 she’s a student at Notre Dame. (Notre Dame! What could be better as a Republican applause line?)

2. how will all his edicts be paid for + how was Megan Crowley's health care

paid for? Those are a coupla q's I have and the first q is being talked about this a.m. at MSM while the 2nd one no one dares to ask.

I suspect that Crowley's health care was paid for by either ACA or Medicaid. She may have been able to get Medicare early, too, since she no doubt has Soc. Security disability. These are all possibilities unless her parents are 1%ers

“They lost him” he said. “This is something they wanted to do” he said. Am I enraged by these statements of the Commander and Chief, you betcha, I am!

I am biased in more than a couple of ways concerning the death of an American Hero, Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens. But as a Gold Star Dad and an American Citizen, I am angered and mortified that the Commander and Chief would not say “The Buck stops here!” To not take responsibility and to shift blame to those he leads is not in any way honoring the service and sacrifice of CPO Ryan Owens. Ryan in the sands of Yemen did not ask, “Am I my Brother’s Keeper?” No, he showed his love in his sacrifice. Greater Love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends

One of my biggest concerns of a Trump Presidency was and is; does he have the intellectual curiosity and the internal fortitude to do the job? He has shown himself to be a great “twitter warrior” and he is awesome in the realm of “fake fights.” But with real lives on line will he fully engage. Will he seek real answers or will he just continue to ratchet up the rhetoric? Will he ever step up and say the “Buck stops here” or is he always going to be looking for a scapegoat.

Identifying problems is easy work, and President Trump is a master of identifying problems. Fixing them is not. To this point the President has shown no ability except the skills of a barker at the circus. He is loud, draws attention to the problem but The President so far has showed that he either wants to run around the Congress, be a referee of the Congress, or be their task master. Which if this is all he is going to do he is going to be as effective as someone sticking their thumbs in their ears, sticking out their tongues, wiggling their fingers and saying Na NA NA NA.

But, I have my doubts any President can truly lead our government, to really work with both sides to make any kind of agreement because our government is dysfunctional. It would be easy to lay all the blame at the Politician’s feet and make no mistake they share guilt is the degradation of our government functionality. But, We the People must all take our fair share and might I say, the lion’s share of guilt. We have sent people to Washington under the threat of make no compromise or their will be hell to pay, we will find someone who will make no such concessions. We need all politicians to quit being just the representative of those who voted for them, ONLY.

We do have great problems that need to be addressed and I agree with the President that we have the power and the ability to tackle and conquer our problems. But to do that we need a President who has the ability to take responsibility and say the “Buck Stops here!” And sadly in the place and time he could have shown real leadership he chose to shift the blame.

Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens death and sacrifice deserved better than scapegoat politics from our Commander and Chief, if he truly wants to be great and trans-formative he is going to have to say it was my call, it was my decision, we are going to look into what happened, see what could have been prevented, and implement changes if needed. The sacrifice of CPO Owens, the sacrifice by my son in the Mountains of Afghanistan, and the sacrifice of all our soldiers deserve a President with broad shoulders to carry the weight of the burden of sending our sons, daughters, moms, dads, brothers, and sisters into combat.

And if he can’t do this, then get the Hell out of the way and let V.P. Pence be President. And while I have enormous difference with the V.P. I know he has broad shoulders.
