Let's never talk about a government shutdown - ever again
Remember - the Treasury is already taking "extraordinary measures" as we went over the debt ceiling in March.Source: The Hill, by Jeff Reeves
*****
But even now, with Republicans in control of the White House and both houses of Congress, we still have to do this song and dance.
*****
Why not an annual fight about entitlement reform, with both sides frothing at the mouth over Social Security eligibility ages or cost-of-living increases? Why not a war about removing the $118,500 cap on Social Security taxes that allows top earners to avoid truly paying their fair share into the system?
*****
If Congress had any stones, they wouldnt settle for a stopgap fix this year as they have so many times before. Theyd do as Mitch McConnell boldly proposed in 2011 with a Democrat in the White House no less! and kill this debt ceiling nonsense once and for all.
But they wont. So instead, expect to hear fuss about another government shutdown again in the near future, regardless of any headlines about bipartisan agreements in the near term.

(37,324 posts)1. The republicans don't like the idea
of the U.S. being a stable and reliable country.
They'd like it better if trump wore a uniform with lotsa gold braid and medals.
Oh, and a BIG hat. You gotta have a big hat.

(10,279 posts)4. Jobs numbers decreasing, domestic auto production decreasing, banks
offering low interest loans. I think someone in WH told Trump that he is headed for an economic slump, and a shutdown could push us into -- I'm going to say it -- a Trump recession. He is delivering no coal jobs or other black smoke jobs to his base. Their work will continue to be to collect garbage and salvage junk, plus poaching fish, deer and raccoons. Not going to like that in 2018.

He will never accept responsibility for anything bad, will claim credit for everything good, and lie about it all!
