Pastor Explains: When White Folks Say Obama Was an Embarrassment, Here is Your Response.

'One of the common responses to criticism of Donald Trump by his mostly white voters is something along the lines “we were embarrassed by Obama for 8 years.” One pastor is calling out that nonsense.

Progressive pastor John Pavlovitz, a favorite of ours here, has penned an open letter to those white Trump voters, informing them that no, in fact, they weren’t embarrassed by the former President.

Were you embarrassed by his lone and enduring twenty-five year marriage to a strong woman he’s never ceased to publicly praise, respect, or cherish?

Were you embarrassed by the way he lovingly and sweetly parented and protected his daughters?'>>>

and the fundies derided her every which way, even on Sunday, I asked, "What's your problem with her? He cheated on her and she stayed with him. Isn't that what you guys preach?"

To your point (and mine)... I think it's the strong woman part that upsets the fundies

"He cheated on her and she stayed with him"

Hillary had to compete with another woman.

Laura had to compete with a man (Jeff Gannon).

No embarrassment from the right wingers about that?

Bulls Eye! That's always been their issue. We're still dealing with the "barefoot and pregnant" as the ideal woman for a lot of these people. And I think your first thought is a big part, too. I think the whole impeachment thing was really a slam at her. They knew they would never be able to impeach Clinton, but keeping that whole thing constantly in the headlines would put her in "her place" by public humiliation. She held her head up, withstood the storm, and kept her marriage together. Something most of them can't do.

He did a great job in spite of the awful/deplorable way he was treated by our Congress.

I believe that in about 50 years (maybe sooner) the history books will say that he was one of our greatest presidents ever. But I know why some people went around saying they were "embarrassed" by him.

It's not because he's black, it's because they are racists. Sad fact but true.

I'm talking about some of my best friends and it breaks my heart to say this.
But we have to face it, racism is alive and well in the USA.

it actually makes me sad to think that people see Obama that way. Obviously the are deluded. Perhaps they are inherently racist or perhaps they are just mislead by an insane trashy and racist right-wing media.

You weren’t “embarrassed” by Barack Obama.

You were threatened by him.
You were offended by him.
You were challenged by him.
You were enraged by him.

Bingo. You could watch all the Rethugs balls (for those that actually have a set) get sucked back up into their bodies. Once again we had to have another Jackie Robinson situation. The fact we had to have one 40 years ago when a phenomonal athlete walked on to the faild the exact samn thing in 2008. A humilation for this country that continues to this day.

Every white person in America must watch "Hidden Figues" and try not to cry at how horrible we have treated human beings.

Yep. That's about the size of it, and the color.

What they were most upset about was simply that there was a black guy in the Oval Office and he wasn't the janitor.

They'll never quite get it - THEY THEMSELVES are what's embarrassing.

Everytime I touched my tablet screen it redirected me to an ad, even when I didn't touch the ad. Took me at least 2 dozen tries to read the whole thing. My pop-up blocker was in overdrive, too. I'd like to copy the letter, but I don't want to mess with the site.
