WSJ Editorial: Priebus Wasnt the Problem
Trump announced late Friday on Twitterhow else?that he is replacing White House chief of staff Reince Priebus with Homeland Security secretary John Kelly. The decision was probably inevitable given how the President publicly humiliated Mr. Priebus in recent days, but this shuffling of the staff furniture wont matter unless Mr. Trump accepts that the White House problem isnt Mr. Priebus. Its him.
Presidents get the White House operations they want, and Mr. Trump has a chaotic mess because he seems to like it. He likes pitting faction against faction, as if his advisers are competing casino operators from his Atlantic City days. But a presidential Administration is a larger undertaking than a family business, and the infighting and competing leaks have created a dysfunctional White House.
Perhaps Mr. Kelly, a retired Marine general, can impose some order on the staff. But then thats what Anthony Scaramucci was supposed to do for the communications team, only to blow up in adolescent fashion this week by trashing Mr. Priebus and others in public. White House leakers then let it be known that Mr. Trump liked Mr. Scaramuccis X-rated rant.
The reason Mr. Priebus wasnt as effective as he could have been is because Mr. Trump wouldnt listen to him and wouldnt let him establish a normal decision-making process. Mr. Trump has a soft spot for military men so perhaps hell listen more to Mr. Kelly. Hed better, because on present course his Presidency is careening toward a historic reputation where names like Jimmy Carter and Richard Nixon reside.

And one comment:
I detest the Democrat Party but I am now hoping Trump gets impeached for the good of the country since he's shown himself to be an incompetent disaster.

Jimmy Carter negotiated the Camp David accords and created the Department of Education.
The current presidency is not just at the treasonous levels of Nixon and Reagan, but is worse. It's now careening towards the level of tin pot dictators in banana republics.

(58,785 posts)I was startled and had to go look to see if that was from you or from the article. The statement is well worth reading, and encouraging, when you know where it's coming from.
The other day one of Limbaugh's callers said Rump was starting to seem like a "wimp." Very slow learner, but making progress even if he'll never graduate.

(44,124 posts)Yes, it does seem like some Trump voters are finally getting it. Also seems like some Republicans in Congress are getting less afraid of him as well.

(51,590 posts)The fake prez loves to "stir things up" among his staff and is sort of like the Roman Coliseum watching people tear each other to threads for amusement. He is really a sick monster. I wonder if he'll play his violin while watching as the country burns.
