I laugh not because of the topic but because it's so true. The internet and social media has led to a tremendous rise in pseudo-intellectualism, self promoted experts in medicine, mental health and other topics. It reminds me of the people who have read the "Sociopath Next Door" and now are able to identify everyone who has ever harmed them (even in a minor way) as being a sociopath.

I would never directly speak about my patients individually but more than a few have come to me convinced they know more than I. Others have family and/or friends who have offered nothing short of pop-psychological nonsense as solutions to all their problems. Then there are those who believe a pill will solve all problems while others believe that medication is the root of all evil. Others promote cannabis as the panacea to all addiction and obsession/compulsion while pointing to individual studies that they simply are not trained to understand or place them into context.

Narcissism is the new buzz word and it is being thrown around left and right. Personality disorders are complex. Everyone exhibits narcissistic traits to some extent.
