DEMOCRATIC PARTY DRAMA PUTS DEPUTY CHAIR KEITH ELLISON IN A TOUGH SPOT.

'A PURGE OF PARTY officials loyal to Keith Ellison is putting the deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee in a difficult position, calling into question his ability to shape DNC decision-making.

Ellison’s decision to accept the number two spot at the DNC was controversial among his backers, but he argued that he would be able to influence the party from the inside, and help steer Chair Tom Perez in a progressive direction.

It’s a dilemma as old as politics itself, but the question of how to navigate in relation to the DNC is complicated by the party committee’s toxic political reputation among backers of the presidential bid of Sen. Bernie Sanders. If Ellison can’t reform the DNC, he risks becoming seen by a swath of the party as an apologist for it instead.

On Thursday, four long-serving DNC officials who had backed Ellison’s bid to be DNC chair were removed from their positions. Ray Buckley, James Zogby, and Barbra Casbar Siperstein were bounced from the executive committee, and Buckley was also taken off the rules committee, on which he served as well. Alice Germond lost her at-large appointment.'>>>

His role is to support. Do his job or resign.

Common Dreams yesterday, this today. Seems like someone's effort to divide and create problems. Some people are out, other people are in. That's the way it goes. Having read the changes, it seems more inclusive to me.

"The diversity that is being introduced....the party is doubling the representation of millennials and Native Americans on the DNC and increasing the number of Puerto Ricans.

Larry Cohen, a labor liaison for Sanders. Two other former Clinton campaign workers, Emmy Ruiz and Craig Smith, are also among Perez’s slate of new at-large members, along with Sanders’s former press secretary, Symone Sanders.

The slate includes 21 union representatives, an increase from recent years. Among them: Randi Weingarten of the American Federation of Teachers, Lily Eskelsen Garcia of the National Education Association, and Lee Saunders of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

Others chosen to be at-large members are Ellie Perez of Arizona, an undocumented immigrant who arrived in the United States as a child and is enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program; Marisa Richmond, a transgender African-American woman; and four people from Puerto Rico."

“Several supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) are also on Perez’s list and two people who challenged Perez for DNC chair have been nominated — Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) and former South Carolina Democratic chairman Jaime Harrison.”

And while Zogby will no longer be in the position he was, he's been given a different role.

This is the second post in two days that you have brought here, using all caps, to promote a non existent division in the DNC.

The divisiveness gets old. There are other websites that might welcome this. But DU is a Democratic website.
