Bernie Sanders' Criticism Of Israel Is Radical. And He's Taking It Mainstream

https://twitter.com/twitter/statuses/1004505722648870912

Not many in the media are noticing, which is understandable given the burden of keeping up with Donald Trump, but in the shadow of Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, Bernie Sanders is dramatically challenging Beltway discourse on Israel.

In 2020, when Sanders likely runs for president, and journalists begin paying attention, they’re going to be shocked. The Israeli government and the American Jewish establishment will be scared out of their minds.

Last month, Sanders crossed one of the red lines demarcating politically acceptable Washington discourse about Israel. He organized the first letter written by multiple senators criticizing Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip. Then, last week, he raced past that line again with a video that is unlike anything I’ve ever seen from an American senator.

(snip)

Perhaps the courage of the protesters in Gaza is proving contagious after all.

But I don't think Bernie is entirely consistent on this.

So he’s against Hamas lobbing missiles in to Israel and against Israeli soldiers snipping protestors. What a monster!

The 'left' in the US is finally waking up. Support Israel no matter what has been the policy for decades... But the no matter what bit has resulted in a huge diminshment of the US brand globally.

It's hard to understand this, but the coverage in the US is almost completely biased in favor of the Israeli government. Everywhere else it ranges from slightly biased in one direction OR biased against the Israeli occupation.

But maybe that time is coming to an end. Or at least maybe a few random people on the left will start speaking out openly, as they do in the east of the world.

What's next? Americans learning about what they've done to Iran? Realizing that they've been played like pawns in an conflict started by and perpetuated by the US....?

Probably not.

Maybe a Kardashian could tell Trump.

Best way to start that process is to have an actual election, pretty sure no one is preventing that from happening other than Hamas and Fatah.

People need to remember that Gaza borders Egypt, but somehow it's the Jews that are preventing "freedom".
