The president of Hyundai Electric & Energy Systems has informed Gov. Kay Ivey and other officials in a letter this month that the company cannot continue to invest in Alabama due to Trump Administration trade policies.

In a letter dated March 20, the head of the energy company told Ivey that “additional plans of investments and expansion we have for Alabama, absent an immediate and major change of course at (the U.S. Department of Commerce), must be abandoned for the foreseeable future.”

The letter goes on to say that the company “will have to review on a quarterly basis whether our continued operation in the state is sustainable.”

Hyundai Electric is a separate company from the auto manufacturer.

Manufacture what Hundai electric would have made in Alabama? If there is a demand in the market for such equipment, my guess is someone else will jump in to fulfill the need.

Very seldom a market demand goes unfulfilled.
