Before Trump and his allies blamed China for coronavirus, Trump vouched for China -- repeatedly

President Trump, the White House and their allies are increasingly on a blame-China footing in the fight against the coronavirus. They’re stoking nationalism by emphasizing the country where the virus originated, calling it the “Wuhan virus,” lodging conspiracy theories about it being deliberately weaponized and accusing the Chinese of a coverup.

But there’s one person who didn’t have time for blaming China even as of a couple of weeks ago: Trump himself.

The most speculative conspiracies about China have emanated from Trump allies like Jerry Falwell Jr. and conservative journalists. But even in his Oval Office address Wednesday night, Trump conspicuously emphasized that the virus “started in China” and called it a “foreign virus.” He also said at Friday’s news conference, “They know where it came from; we all know where it came from.”

White House national security adviser Robert O’Brien has even gone further. On Wednesday, he directly accused China of a coverup. “Unfortunately, rather than using best practices, this outbreak in Wuhan was covered up,” O’Brien said, adding, “The way that this started out in China, the way it was handled from the outset, was not right, it should have been handled differently.”

Isn't that stock and trade for a tin pot dictator who will has already practiced scapegoat du jour?

If we stopped calling this threat to humanity a "President", and used the correct term, then we would be clear on what he does and what we can expect.

I say that because it is clear that the oath he took before assuming office was not taken sincerely and his actions are contrary to its purpose and intent. As far as the Presidency goes, we have a titular head. That usually means someone who is merely beholden to other parties and concerns, (like Dubya) but it this case we have a titular head who is using the title for very nefarious and dangerous reasons. How do we honor that office when a demonstrably authoritarian dictator is in it?

I think calling Trump the President demeans the office to the point of dissolving its meaning and purpose, (which might, incidentally, be useful for vested interests). So, I only think of the position for him as titular with no significant value or meaning other than it has become a vehicle to destroy our democracy a quickly as possible. Imagine having a "President" who has that kind of contempt and disregard for the Constitution of the United States and more specifically, the Preamble.

How is that for cognitive dissonance? How many people honor this toxic person and can't see that?
