Has Trump's coronavirus response sunk him? Don't bet on it - Cas Mudde

From Cas Mudde in The Guardian:

Some pundits argue that his Lysol comments are the last straw for supporters. But he could still successfully change the conversation

"And if that does not work, there is always Trump’s most effective backup card: racism. Like all far-right politicians, the president has emphasized the “foreignness” of the virus from the beginning. He has consistently used the term “China virus” and increasingly blames China for the whole pandemic – a strategy enthusiastically endorsed by the Republican party.

But it could get uglier. With a disproportionate number of Covid-19 cases and deaths in New York and California, the far right is working hard to characterize coronavirus as an urban, coastal disease that does not threaten so-called Heartland America. This fits perfectly into an existing far-right narrative that casts California and New York as multicultural dystopias."

... his supporters do not care about his Lysol spray. They think people who believe that are "Libtards" and deserve to die. Also, they get the Chinese angle - it's all about keeping "foreigners" out of the country. They love Crooked Donald. Their love is unconditional. We have to vote in greater numbers - nobody stays home thinking she will win, anyway, like last time.

If so it seems to be based upon a false analysis of her 2016 campaign and ignorance of Russian involvement in our electiions-which is ongoing.
_
-The false framing of the 2016 election "loss" is also responsible for the normalizing of Trump which gave him a huge advantage in gutting our government over 3 years.

... Hillary Clinton won. She got the most votes. She wasn't "elected" President, but she clearly won the vote. What really bothers me is the continuing perception that Hillary "lost" the vote. Most media people equate the American vote with the Electoral College. They call it the "popular vote" - but they still do not say she was the popular pick. They should say Crooked Donald won the "unpopular vote." Hillary would have won bigger if some of the people that stayed home went out to vote; they thought a candidate as bad as Donald Trump didn't have a chance - and the media went along with that perspective.

I still hear media - conservative to liberal - say, "The American People voted for Donald Trump." No, they did not. The American People voted for Hillary Clinton. And, unlike Bush v Gore, it was not close. Even with the Russian involvement. I also think she ran a good campaign... the media complained about her not having a message, but they hardly ever covered her message - they favored "The Donald" and his rantings. If it bleeds, it leads...

After thirty years of Hillary-hating, they weren't about to change their tune just because she was running against a guy so sleazy, he makes Bob Guccioni look like Mr. Rogers.

He sabotaged pandemic response in 2018.

He ignored multiple early warnings from US Intelligence Community.

He believed China (Chhye-nuh) when it was convenient to say 15 cases would drop to zero.

He believed the WHO when it was convenient for his PR campaign against the virus.

Now he says he was lied to by them. He can't have it both ways.

Exactly as you say, now that it is increasing in Red Hatter states the origins are becoming more irrelevant, except as diversion.

Bottom line: tRump failed to defend Americans against the virus. He continues to flail and fail.

To portray it that way... until it really hits middle America like a tidal wave.

So far, we've had just one case in this town... until yesterday. Yesterday it jumped to 100, any bets on where that number goes from there, especially with how the majority of this town has been laughing at our governor's stay at home order because we only had 1 case here?

Once it hits middle America, they are sunk.

The red states have banded together to open up and push a wave of infections over their own citizens. Meanwhile the blue states are recovering.
