Michael Flynn isn't a martyr. He's a crook and a crackpot.
For anyone with a memory that stretches all the way back to 2016, it is positively bizarre to see Republicans suddenly claiming that Michael Flynn, President Trumps former national security adviser, is a martyr. Its obvious why and how theyre doing it: In an effort to distract from Trumps spectacular failure on the coronavirus pandemic, they are attempting to create a new fake scandal that will send us all down an endless rabbit hole chasing absurd lies and conspiracy theories.
But Michael Flynn? Hes the one they want to portray as a victim? Whats next Jeffrey Epstein was framed? Bernie Madoff was a humanitarian? Al Capone was misunderstood?
Heres the truth: Flynn should never have been allowed within 10 miles of the White House. He was a dangerous, dishonest and shady operator who was also kind of a loon. For a moment, it appeared that everyone in the Trump administration realized it, which was why he was booted from his position as national security adviser after only 24 days on the job.
Yet now theyre treating him like a hero.
So lets quickly review who Flynn was:

(7,917 posts)MSM could provide context rather than ignoring it. Instead they announce repeat the Trumpian talking points as if they were fact rather than the fictions they are. Trump uses this situation to push ever more dangerous and distorted versions of what can only be called propaganda.
The news agencies have an obligation to present ALL the FACTS and to fairly represent the context which illuminates their meaning, not just to parrot the press releases intended to obscure and erase them. That is the public trust underlying the 4th Estate.
At this point most of the press seem content to dramatize the crisis by presenting an endless series of "look at the squirrel" events and heart tugging moments of personal loss or sacrifice. They have not done the followup nor the kinds of in-depth analysis which gives dimension and connects those moments by showing how they are related to decisions made and not made. As it stands they are presenting each witness as on a soap-box creating a false illusion of equivalency.

(11,885 posts)With turkey to kidnap someone here in this country a person Turkey wanted for manufactured claims , who likely would face being murdered. I'd bet trump was involved with it too to help his criminal buddy Erdogan. Flynn is a cold blooded criminal , and hopefully he will face consequences with many others.

Yeah. Flynn's a real stand-up guy, not to mention one heckuva patriot.
