A GOP senator reveals just how deranged many in his party have become
Opinion by Greg Sargent
Sen. Patrick J. Toomey, Republican of Pennsylvania, has done something truly extraordinary. He has now stated in unequivocal terms that its unacceptable for his fellow Republicans to try to subvert the will of American voters to keep President Trump in power illegitimately.
Why have so few other Republicans proved willing to take this simple step?
Toomeys declaration contrasts sharply with a new development in the Georgia runoffs. GOP Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue just announced their support for a deranged lawsuit filed by Texas that seeks to overturn popular vote outcomes in four battleground states that Trump lost.
Those Georgia moves capture a broader state of affairs: It appears that untold numbers of elected Republicans are trying to inspire in GOP voters a state of what you might call permanent warfare against our democratic institutions and the oppositions voters alike.

I still can't believe why so many people adore that bastard.

(17,862 posts)I highly doubt he is doing it out of concern for the country.
Where could his incompetence and politics do the least damage?
Secretary of Commerce?
Would it be worth it to get a 50/50 Senate?

(17,862 posts)in the next two years. Toomey as SecCommerce may be the cost. Remember he is put in the position to execute the direction of Biden.
He also could be fired in a month or ten months just like Jeff Sessions. Just saying.

(6,796 posts)PA WOULD THEN have a special election to fill Toomey's seat before he leaves it in 2022. We could run Fetterman in the special and take that Senate seat. Then Fetterman would be lined up to repeat in 2022.

(2,183 posts)He doesn't give a shit about a united America and I doubt that he ever has.
He would be happy to start a 2nd civil war or succession movement just to have and keep his own personal fiefdom.
He's a narcissistic version of a Jefferson Davis wannabe.

(77 posts)He has done absolutely nothing to impede trump, knowing full well what he was.
Instead he milked trump for all he was worth for tax cuts and judges. Toomey doesn't get to distance himself now that there is nothing further to be gained.
Toomey will always carry the stench of trump.

(471 posts)... and you are spot on that he gets no kudos for these words ...
... he's been an irritant to progressive ideas from his first days as a rep from the PA15th to this instant ...
... I've stood in rain to protest @ his office (Tuesdays with Toomey) & frequent calls, letters and emails to him in protest
... at nearly every turn he's been more interested in making sure banks and moneyed interests were protected ...
... he has issued more responsible statements since he's decided to leave DC but that hardly makes up for the last 20 yrs
