Yes, Donald Trump's final days in office were even worse than we thought
Donald Trump's final days as president were defined by near-total chaos as House Democrats moved to impeach him for his action (and inaction) during the January 6 riot at the US Capitol even as the soon-to-be-former president sought to use the power of his office to settle scores and reward loyalists.
And yet, even amid those last, wild days, there was a sense that for as bad as everything we could see was, there was even worse stuff going on behind closed doors that wouldn't be made public until Trump left office, and the true reportorial digging began.
Which brings me to Tuesday, when two highly anticipated Trump books -- Michael Bender's "Frankly We Did Win This Election," and Michael Wolff's "Landslide" -- went on sale, with a third book -- "I Alone Can Fix It" by Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker -- scheduled to be released in seven days' time.
All three books focus on Trump's last year in office. And all three present what can only be described as a terrifying picture of a president consumed by personal hatred and unwilling to even consider the limits his predecessors had placed on themselves in office.

(182,789 posts)This is, in sum, a man deeply unfit for the presidency. (That is not a partisan statement. It is a statement of fact based on the clear portrait we have of how Trump behaved while in the most powerful office in the country.) A man who, by his inability to understand the sanctity of the office he held, threatened to destroy that sanctity for those who would follow him into the White House. And a man who was, without any question, an active danger for every single American -- whether they supported or opposed him.

(7,281 posts)We knew him to be a clear and present danger and unfit for office long BEFORE he was installed in 2016, and we didn't need Clinton to say it out loud.
We knew it throughout his 2016 campaign. We knew this during his inauguration speech in 2017.
And we knew this to be true every single day of his term in office leading right up to the election, and we knew it would be true following the election if Biden won, before the election was finally called.
We always knew it to be true.
So I have to infer, if the rest of us knew this to be true, how is possible the CEO's of Broadcast media didn't also know it to be true?
Well, the answer of course is that they knew this and denied knowing how dangerous he would be. All for the sake of the almighty tax cuts they salivated over, even though their combined wealth could probably house the poor all over the counry.
To be clear, I don't believe big company execs have an obligation to house the poor and feed the hungry, I just expect they'd opt in for stability and frankly decency. After all, they all made such hay out of Clinton's piccadillos, ya'd think they had some moral obligation to bring it on with the TFG.
My feeling is there has to be a serious accounting with Big Media straight across the board. I'd give up my favorite left wing programs like Maddow's and a few others for the equivalent to Chronkite and Huntley-Brinkley report any day.
Unfortunately, there's no going back, and that's the hard truth of it.
We are all at the mercy of Big Media framing the issues, and casting positive or negative attributes on the wrong candidates, office holder etc.

(182,789 posts)that was the gist of his answers to being asked about giving Trump so much air time in 2016.
Frankly, that was his job. Sadly, that was his job.
Great post.

(9,008 posts)I suppose people don't like to admit they were duped.
Sure, some love TFG for his pure trashy nature. But I have to believe many were duped, and are ashamed.
Now, we have to shame the GOP for being so willing to become Fascists.

(575 posts)intentionally sabotaged by elites, who realized that a populace capable of critical thought would be unwilling to swallow the ridiculous lies required to implement the anti- union anti-new deal goals they so greedily lusted after. All that was needed after 40 years of dumbing down the rubes, was a carnival barker to lead them down to the path to the poorhouse...
