Pharmacist Arrested For Selling Covid Vaccine Cards On eBay, Feds Say

https://www.forbes.com/sites/nicholasreimann/2021/08/17/pharmacist-arrested-for-selling-covid-vaccine-cards-on-ebay-feds-say/

A Chicago-based pharmacist was arrested on Tuesday after prosecutors said he illegally sold more than 100 Covid vaccine cards on eBay, as calls for crackdowns on fake and illicit vaccination cards grow.

According to the Justice Department, 34-year-old Tangtang Zhao was a licensed pharmacist with access to authentic CDC Covid vaccination cards, which he sold online for about $10 a card.

Prosecutors say Zhao sold 125 authentic vaccine cards online in 12 different transactions between March 25 and April 11, with sales totaling more than $1,000.

Zhao is facing up to 120 years in prison for the illegal sales, since each of the 12 counts of theft of government property he's been indicted with carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.

It wasn't immediately clear if Zhao had entered a plea, and a request for comment from Forbes was not returned.

4. The guy is an idiot. If you are putting your license at risk, better make more than $1250.

Right, why put an expensive license at risk. And face prison in a federal prison for such a small amount of profit.

A friend of mine had an expensive medical license and education. He joked that if he was going to put his license at risk for money he would need to make enough money for a fake passport, new fake identity, private jet to a small tropical island and income for life. That is the only
way to put a license at risk. BTW the guy was straight arrow and never broke the smallest of laws. He just had a strange sense of humor.

when getting ready to prosecute, the prosecutors had to have an airtight, well documented case... said juries would have to be convinced that medical doctors would risk their medical licenses.

6. Very interesting. Juries have to be convinced an MD is stupid enough to risk a lucrative license.

The average salary for a US physician is around $250K.
Over a 40 year career that would total about $10 million.
And an MD license earns status and respect.

Why commit a crime that puts your income and status at risk, and possibility of federal jail time.
In addition to a total lack of morality, these docs have no business sense whatsoever.

3. Worst business decision of his life. Selling federal property for $10 a card, 120 years in prison.

He only made $1250. And his life is ruined. Jail, loss of license, loss of income, etc.

7. The 'ego' is never rational and is the answer to, "why self-destructive choices?"

Ego: everyone has one, even the most brilliant, wise and saintly.

Volition, desire, self-identity: everyone also has these, but only the brilliant, wise and saintly use and manage them to restrain the ego (like parenting a bratty child).

Confusing "Self" with ego or self-identity (labels) is the root cause of human unhappiness.
