Republicans Barely Won the House. Now Can They Run It?

WASHINGTON — Republicans managed to make their victory in the House seem like a loss by underperforming so badly. But while they did not win control by anywhere near the margin that they anticipated, they did win. And in the House, even the barest majority can work its will if it can hold together to produce 218 votes.

The main question going forward is whether Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California, who was nominated Tuesday to lead the new Republican majority, can achieve the unity necessary to perform fundamental tasks such as funding the government, or whether unyielding far-right members will make the new speaker’s life miserable and the House an unmanageable mess.

The likely single-digit-seat victory will allow Republicans to claim power — including subpoena power — set the agenda, run the committees and try to hold President Joe Biden’s feet to the fire with a string of promised investigations.

Despite their underwhelming showing, Republicans are unlikely to be chastened into cooperating with Biden and no doubt will plunge ahead aggressively once they get their hands on the gavels. For many, that was the point of the election. Their agenda is investigative, not legislative.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/republicans-barely-won-house-now-130608626.html

The dipshit caucus of MTG, Matt Gaetz, Gym Jordan and (assuming she wins) Lauren Bobo will be setting the agenda.

I believe he thought being President was just issuing EO's like a CEO would and letting everyone else handle it like he was used to.

Work if the house doesn’t work. Whoever is speaker is going to have to pass basic things like budgets and debt ceiling raises. We all know how this is going to go. It's amazing that their basic incompetence governing isn’t a bigger deal after theast two shit shows the GOP house was.

Kevin McCarthy is a weak leader at best. Days after saying on the house floor that "Trump bears responsibility for the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6th", McCarthy flew down to MAL to kiss TDFG's ass and pledge fealty to him.

Nor do I think he has the votes to become Speaker with the very slim Majority he has. Nor does he have people in place to negotiate with Democrats to pass meaningful legislation. For they want to undo all that the Congress did anyways that even some Republicans voted for because that legislation was good for their Districts as well. Will they vote to undo any good they did? Who knows.

No Executive Branch or Senate to cover their incompetence. McCarthy is going to be the MC in this Circus of the Absurd. Nothing Good will get done, but, luckily, nothing bad can can get done, either.

"Nothing Good will get done, but, luckily, nothing bad can can get done, either."

With US democracy on life support, the climate rapidly approaching a point of no return, and economic inequality pushing social stability to dumpster fire status, the loss of two years may prove to be incalculably bad.

What happens if there are one or two vacancies on the GOP side after swearing in?

For instance those members of the Treason Caucus who aided the attempted coup get arrested and jailed?

Also, if the Jan 6 commission report is published and implicated some House Members, can the 14th amendment block them from being seated?

Those kooks are plain nuts. It is certainly not good for the County to get nothing done in the next two years. Not to mention Ukraine. MTG has already said, no more funding! Freak will get us all killed, so I vote no. They are not going to elect McCarthy -- fingers crossed. I really do not like that crew.

the caption, Though it said 'ruin', not 'run', an understandable mistake as the GQP ruin everything just like everything tfg touches turns to shyt. It's interesting that the Democrats are unified and the Republicans are in disarray. But, the media never seems to see it that way. The old leadership stepping down while staying in office is wiser than I usually give them credit for. The new Democratic leadership will have the benefit of that group's input, something the up and comers will need considering how far right the crazy party is. The insanity of the right will be fully exposed. Let's hope that the voters pay attention.

I am betting a few hold out conservatives will side with democrats to move things forward. It all depends on the house democrats vote for their leader. If a very moderate leader, then dont be shocked to see a movement of electors towards democrats. After all... there is the republican party and the trump party..... trumpers use the republican party, but there is a vast differences between the two.... one is Nazis amd the other isn't...
