Krugman in the NYT today https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/12/opinion/biden-trump-america.html?smidtw-nytopinion&smtypcu

My heart sank when I read Krugman today. I like him a lot and value his opinion. He is a heartfelt Democrat, writing about his reason to have another Democrat run, not Biden, and cites Biden's vulnerability in the 2024 election.

I still will not oppose our president, Joe Biden. But I don't want to see him and us lose and I don't think our VP is well known enough to overcome the giant chicanery of the Trumpers.

Perhaps we can encourage more discussion about just 2 things: Joe Biden's enormous success in leading our government and the frightening spectacle of having another Trump presidency.

6. Krugman lost his nerve. He shudda worked it through in his head more before he wrote this.

The hell with this abstract thought process. The reality is there really IS no choice for us liberals. It must be Biden. Write about the positives with the Democrats and the HORRORS of Trump.

(some interpretations of DU rules might differ) But I just don't see that there is a great deal of profit to the community either (and probably a good deal of rancor and agitation) - when Joe Biden is plainly going to be the presidential nominee for the party.

The idea that some kind of groundswell is going to miraculously change course and anoint another figurehead at this date ... Is, in my opinion, simply fabulist and not tenable. So the smart move is to get on board with the candidate that we have - meanwhile taking every opportunity to point to what an truly execrable (and demonstrated as execrable!) choice the other side has chosen to back for leadership by contrast!

4. You are so right! Two big themes IMO: chaos and choice.

Hit Trump with ad after ad after ad on his incompetency AND a reminder of what havoc to women's lives has been caused by the Dobbs decision ("do we want more of this?&quot . Plant doubt in the minds of the undecided and fear in everyone's mind about what another Supreme Court justice appointed by Trump could do to our precious rights.
