Related: About this forumNo Questioning Religion? Bill Maher vs. Catholic League
"The Catholic League is mad as hell and they aren't going to take it anymore. Bill Maher, host of HBO's "Real Time", has apparently made one too many jabs at the expense of Catholics, particularly priests, and the League has decided it's time for it to stop."
The Catholic league is outraged comedian Bill Maher is making jokes about their religion! After all, it is his job to write jokes, and he MUST agree with everyone's religion, right? To his credit, he actually tries his best to mock all religion equally. Cenk Uygur breaks down the group's complaint and what it means.

(4,113 posts)Maher's jabs at the RCC at least have an element of truth to them. The Limbaughs, Becks, etc. just spew out pure hate and bigotry with no facts to back them up (example - Sandra Fluke).
What's worse about Donohue's temper tantrum is that Maher's medium is pay-per-view--if you want to see him, you pay. The Limbaughs, Becks and others are on the public airwaves and oversaturate them to where you're hard-pressed to find any station anymore that doesn't carry them and their ilk.

(16,350 posts)I thought, "HANH?!" Glad I was wrong.
People defend their religion because I guess they feel it needs defending. I never really understood that. Do they have faith in an all-powerful God or not? I wish they could trust that He can and will handle it--so they can stop lashing out in fear and anger, or worse. Westboro Baptist 'Church' comes to mind as an extreme example of underestimating the God they say they put so much faith in.

(2,173 posts)That would be like me watching FOX 24x7 to count how many times they use "Democrat Party" instead of the correct "Democratic Party". I'm sure it's way more than 39 times a week, much less over a span of many years.
But just as I choose NOT to watch FOX, Donahue has chosen to be Catholic and apparently has chosen to watch Mayer. Yo, dude - if you don't like Mayer, DON'T WATCH HIM! Now go grab a wafer and some grape juice and tune into something you can relate to - like FOX.
there are no Catholics or religious DUers who gets offended when an atheist makes critical remarks about the Catholic church. Sure!

(7,952 posts)both of whom he speaks very fondly of. He's just using his stage to voice his opinions-no biggie. Donohue is an attention whore, and a bad one at that.

(17,301 posts)Rednecks laugh at themselves, everyone laughs at bigots, even the mental ill can find humor in their own condition but what is it with religious people that they can't laugh at their religion?
And they don't want anyone else to laugh at them either.
