(13,594 posts)Morse was actually a republican until 1952 when Eisenhower's choice of Nixon as running mate soured him, and he became an Independent, caucusing with the Democrats three years later. He also opposed the vicious Taft-Hartley Act. Morse was really quite a progressive guy and Oregonians liked him, electing him to four terms in the Senate.

(5,376 posts)My native-born Oregonian husband was a big fan of Wayne Morse, aka "Maverick". I've bookmarked this so my spouse can watch it later. He "imported" me from WA in 1968, where we lived when we got married, so our first child would be a third-generation Oregonian. I never had the privilege of voting for Wayne, but hubby certainly did. I love this interview with Wayne. He never pulled his punches, stood up for his principles, and never let us down. Interesting how many of his words ring true today. An amazing human being, IMHO!
Blessings.
