that I'd snag a rich dork about to graduate, marry well, have the heir and a spare, and live happily ever after, playing bridge every Thursday. We barely spoke for years.

Eventually she came to appreciate the fact that I was very much the same sort of rebel she'd been, although I think coping with me was like coping with an extraterrestrial to her.

If I could go back, would I follow my mother's dream? Not just no, HELL no. I just wish she'd taken it better.
