(1 post)Totally. I once saw someone get stabbed and killed for doing that. But the surveillance video showed that the driver had no choice. The other cars all parked a little bit over the line, and that was the only spot left. he squeezed in.
This other time, some guy got shot (but survived) for doing that. He said there were over 10,000 parking lots and there were only two cars in the entire parking lot and he was in a rush so he just parked there. The guy in the other car just shot him, but luckily he survived.

A friend's car had its wiper blades destroyed when she had foot surgery. She was seen exiting her vehicle, parked in handicap, wearing her special boot, but her pants covered it. She had a temporary handicap placard.

(16,350 posts)I don't look at that and think, 'asshole.' I think, 'That driver is super protective of this car.' That's all. I don't know his story. Maybe it's not his car. Maybe it's his inlaws'. Maybe he barely was able to afford it and saved his money for years to buy it. Just leave a damn note on the car if you've got something to say to the driver. And go do something worthwhile. Why make yourself the asshole and the driver the victim? That's just tacky and childish.

(39,909 posts)...Waaaay Out on the edge of a large parking lot, where nobody else is parking,
and take up extra space or park sideways,
and walk their special ass ALL the way across an uncrowded lot,
then I have no problem with it.
When the above is done in a crowded lot,
and denies someone else a parking space,
then they deserve what they get.
Many people LOVE their cars, and thats OK.
I love the old classics,
and would hate to see an old beauty messed up with door dings and parking lot Oopsies.
If I owned one, I would never park it in a crowded Parking Lot.
My personal philosophy in Car Ownership:
*Never, EVER buy a NEW Car.
*If you are worried about keeping your Paint Job looking Brand New,
go out today and side swipe a tree along both sides,
and then stop worrying about your Paint Job.
If the parking lot is not crowded and they park at the far end of the lot, I have no problem with taking up two spaces or parking sideways. Otherwise, you're an ass.

(55,981 posts)You just reminded me of my dad. He bought a new pair of shoes and promptly scuffed one on the nose. I asked him why he did that and he said "Now I don't have to worry about being careful not to get them scuffed." The logic never left me on that idea.

(3,145 posts)Came out of the Post Office one day to find one parked 8 inches from my car door. had to climb in the passenger side and work my way over..hard to do with bucket seats and small car.
When I get a new car if I don't want someone dinging my door I park way out in the open and walk. 3 months later when the newness wears off i don't give a shit.

(3,530 posts)...on the Plateau in Montreal I'll spend 10 minutes or more trying to find parking. I will see 3-4 cars parked with MASSIVE amounts of room in front and behind where they have parked but not enough room to squeeze my vehicle in. I get angry, thinking that if those 3-4 drivers had just moved forward to a reasonable distance from the car in front of them there would be room for 1, maybe even 2 more cars to park.
...then I realize that, over the course of the day cars have come and gone, little cars, big trucks, who knows what the street might have looked like hours earlier, and who knows if these drivers, who's parking job look very selfish as I'm walking by might have been squeezed into a perfect fit hours earlier.
Of course, that really doesn't explain the ass above...

(14,779 posts)The reason is the first five SMART cars are on, what looks to be a Pedestrian walk lane. Yes Smart cars do NOT take up that much room, but that does NOT give them the right to park over a lane reserved for Pedestrians (i.e. it is like parking on a sidewalk).
Sample of other Pedestrian lanes:

Each Smart car can only have two people, the driver and a passenger, Thus the four Smart cars can fit only eight people. The Dodge Ram, can bit three in its front seat, Two to three in its rear seat and Six to eight (Sometimes ten) people in its bed (It is NOT illegal for adults or even teenagers to ride in the bed of the pickup, many states require anyone under age 12 to have a seat belt, but no seat belt is required for adults riding in the bed of a pickup).
Sorry the SMART car still loses, if ALL the vehicles are used to their maximum passenger level.
Just try to do with with a SMART car:
If you want to go to a slightly larger truck, here is a story of two trucks that between then had 513 people on them (try to do THAT with a SMART car):

(13,485 posts)because there's no reason not to park in a designated parking spot in case the situation changes while the driver is away. There's no reason to park between spots except to make a point or they have low driving skills. It is a reflection of the drivers personality either way... you have respect for people, or you think you're entitled.

(1,489 posts)more than once, I've looked at the arc of the car's door next to me to see if it made a ding
it does tick me off when someone parks super close to you when there's no need for it

(6,736 posts)You've no idea what his finances are like. Hundred thousand dollar super car or $500 jalopy, a person can love their car and not want it to be harmed by other, more careless owners. Pointing out the dollar value betrays class envy, which to me is just as ridiculous as class superiority.
I used to drive a cute little, but rusty as all get out, sports cars. It was worth far less than a basic family sedan of that time. However, people were always screwing with it, no matter where I parked it. I'd find trash in it, notes under the windshield telling me what a pretentious snob I must be for driving such a car. I got keyed. I never used two spaces to park, even when parking in the boonies. Yet still, on many occasions, I'd find a car parked in close on my drivers door, because some jack off thought that was such a hoot. Pickup trucks loved tailgating that car and yelling obscentities. I could go on.
And that car was JUNK. But it looked neat, so it became a target for small minded people who felt it was their right and duty to mess with it, and me.
Park like a normal human being, then mind your own damn business.
About the picture above? Too many cars around for this to be in the boonies, therefore not a spot for double parking. Chalk outline? Fine, non-harmful, sends the right message. Good by me.

as someone who once owned the firebird's twin of that era, the camaro, i can tell you that they are perhaps one of the most impractical cars ever made, actually quite large, with less interior space than a vega, espeacially in back, with that tailbone killer middle space in the back
and the front seats sat so low that your legs were almost straight out, which got uncomfortable in a ride over 2 1/2 hours

(8,510 posts)Except I take up two spaces not because I have a fancy car I'm protecting, but I have a baby and other things I need to get out of the back seat of my pick-up, which has back doors that open like suicide doors. That means in the dinky parking spots in most parking lots, I cannot get into my back seat, nor get things in or out of them when vehicles park close to me. If I don't have the baby, I park in no-man's-land so it doesn't bother anyone. But, when I have the baby, I take two spots at a more reasonable distance to the door.
Just understand, for some of us it's not about being assholes.

I found they actually hit rim on my truck enough so it wore out the tires on the right. Its expensive lesson even if you park to avoid cars 4 tires and the frame shop was over 700.....I would have normally not replaced them for another 1 1/2 yrs and 20k.

(6,800 posts)I pulled into a crowded Dunkin Donuts lot several weeks ago in New Hampshire where nobody was paying any attention to the painted lines.
I worked on my laptop inside for about an hour and came out to find my pickup truck parked just about like the vehicle in the OP.
It crossed my mind that people might think I was an asshole.
This thread has proven without a doubt that there are a lot of people who are very quick to judge a situation that they don't know anything about.
I'm considering how much respect I owe such people.
