But it sounds like to me, he understands the bible more than the majority of Christians.

That is a great book on this topic. A couple of Jesus' disciples were zealots meaning that they were rebels against the Roman presence in Israel. Simon the Zealot was obviously a Zealot, and Brandon suggests that Judas Iscariot was also a Zealot and that Iscariot means Zealot. That could explain why Judas was blamed for having betrayed Jesus.
