As for those who don't like the mandate, living without health insurance is like driving without brakes or without lights.
It's irresponsible and self-destructive.
Might as well drive drunk.
Everybody needs health care. I learned that the hard way. Went back to school when I was 50, worked at low paid jobs while I was finishing my studies -- and in those few years developed high blood pressure which is still with me. Probably always will be. It may just be the genetic sort.
So, don't think that you don't need health insurance. We all do. Every one of us.
Republicans are afraid of the ACA because they know that, overall, all but the most ideologically fanatic Americans are going to love it and that it will disprove not just their warnings about the bill but much of their bunk economic theories.
We all benefit when we work together. That's what insurance is about when you think of it. The insurance company pools all our insurance resources and pays out of that pool for each individual's healthcare needs. I may need very little care for the next ten years. And then need a lot. Or vice versa. We help each other when we buy insurance.
Whether you like it or not, when you pay your rent you are paying for your landlord's insurance on your apartment or house. And if you are buying a house, you have to pay for that insurance in order to keep your mortgage.
