(34,108 posts)I have had the opportunity to play this 4 times. It never ceases to amaze me and move me. From the time that I played that Ode To Joy tune in my second piano book I have been in love with this piece. The entire thing is a work of amazing art, the last movement soars above everything with all those voices. Sitting in the orchestra playing is exhausting by the time you get to that last movement you want to be done then the vocalists come in and you never want to stop. They lift you. It is the most amazing thing.
An amazing performance, thank you for posting this. I just listened to part of it and skipped to the last movement but I will listen to it all. Again, and again and again. My only wish is the chance to do this one more time in performance before I have to retire.

(34,108 posts)I hope so too. If not this is really enough.
I still have the chops but probably not enough time, it is not something that is done by any group often unless they are particularly well staffed to handle it.
Doing the 7th on our first concert, while not one of my favorites it is pretty special in it's own right.

(158 posts)It is unique in the repertoire and gives me chills every time I hear or perform it. Looking forward to performing it again this spring! ( : Exhausting, though- gotta build those chops before this marathon piece. No music says 'destiny' like Beethoven.

Thanks for posting this, whenever I hear any part of this amazing symphony I have to drop everything and just listen as a hypnotized person suddenly recalled into a trance.
