I've always wanted an expansive ocean view.
But he never mentioned the men's.
Then again, maybe some developer has turned the women's prison into condos by now.

(30,058 posts)Exactly my thoughts, those crying about not keeping the policies which the insurance companies determine whenever they please to say you have a pre-existing condition when you want to use the policy and then all the money paid is gone up in smoke.

(9,067 posts)for having migraines. When I got that denial letter I bought some junk insurance not knowing anything about it. I looked into it and people were saying while it wasn't great it helped. It didn't help. Finally I was earning enough money to get on Major Risk Insurance but there were months where I was weighing should I buy groceries or keep my health insurance. Luckily I got help to keep it and now I have tons of options with the exchanges along with better pay. It's been a long road and I'm thrilled that those options are finally here.

(3,544 posts)Of the 14M people that were to be affected(reported by our trust worthy news sources), I'm betting that 95% of them will go elsewhere. ACA maybe? So in essence, they will get a better deal. Yet we hear nothing about this? Why?
We have to account that the remaining 5% are FAUX news viewers. Therefore the signature of "A completely uninformed citizen" comes into play.

(3,528 posts)Obama is taking a beating for this; just because he said something that turned out to not be true. Doesn't matter how idiotic it would be to keep your old plan, there is going to be political fallout.
What I don't understand; if people are stupid enough to want inferior coverage, why not let them? I'm sure the insurance companies are making a killing on these outdated policies, so they would be happy to continue taking your money. So why not "Grandfather clause" all existing policies. Don't allow the insurance companies to issue any more of these policies, but allow whoever wants to continue.
Why is that a problem? Then Obama can say that he let people keep their existing policy, problem solved. Why is this so hard to do?
<on edit> ...just read on another threat (William Pitt) that they DID Grandfather in all policies from BEFORE the ACA came into being, and then the insurance companies started creating NEW policies that would not meet the standards of the ACA, seemingly KNOWING that these policies would then be cancelled. Why have I not heard any of this on the news, I wonder? (sarcasm)
"So why not "Grandfather clause" all existing policies. Don't allow the insurance companies to issue any more of these policies, but allow whoever wants to continue. "
They did. (Edit: Just read your edit. Leaving this up anyway since so many seem not to know it)
When the ACA passed policies existing at that time were grandfathered.
The policies being canceled now? Not those policies. They're new policies that were issued after the ACA was passed that the insurance companies knew damn well would have to be cancelled again right away.
OR, they're policies the insurance companies don't actually have to cancel but are anyway because they want to try to push people to higher cost plans and take this one time opportunity to blame it on Obamacare because most people don't understand what the ACA actually does.
OR, they're policies being cancelled because the company decided to cut costs (My company cancelled two very comprehensive PPO plans this year. a bunch of coworkers naturally started bitching about that damn Obamacare costing them their awesome plan. Turns out upon some pointed questioning of the benefits department they were going to be cancelled anyway, ACA or no ACA, because they were costing the company a fortune.
Etc...

(18,219 posts)My point is that so many of the Obamacare haters who will not sign up, subsidy or not, and will go without insurance instead, are the same people who believe in personal responsibility. They are the ones who keep on pushing that down our throats---"pull yourself up by your bootstraps, bub. And who cares if you don't have bootstraps, you lazy bum." Well, when these people refuse to have insurance, I want them to be willing to take responsibility for that decision.
You make is sound as if I am against caring for everyone, and that is not the case.
Or maybe you just forgot the "sarcasm" smilie and I didn't catch it.

(8,933 posts)however we do not have access to the exchange as we have access to employer based insurance. Scratch that.... I believe we don't have access to the subsidies. Our insurance is going up $100 a pay period to $400 for 2 people every two weeks. Now, I do not blame the ACA for this increase. The insurance company could have raised the rates regardless. In every job my husband has had the rates have steadily gone up. But that about eats up the raise bob just got. It's like there is no getting ahead. Every time you get a little they take it away from a different direction.
At least the president is TRYING to do something to address the problem. Like it or dislike it... at least he is making an attempt. There has been so much talk for so long without actually making any effort to do anything about it. Sure, there have been people who have tried to institute some change, but the bulk of our representatives have quashed it.
And the people who have bitched and moaned for years about the very things that the ACA attempts to address are the ones complaining about this law. Just boggles my mind.

(2,529 posts)Millions of Americans have already benefited from the ACA; parents who were able to keep adult kids on their policies until they're 26 and people who have been covered by Medicaid since 2010. If Republicans get their wish and roll back the law, it might be a very Pyrrhic victory. Over 70 percent of Americans like several provisions of the ACA, such as coverage for pre-existing conditions and keeping adult children on policies.
VPStoltz
(1,295 posts)but in a radio piece I heard a few days ago, it was explained that insurance companies had been allowed all along to let policy holders continue their old policies until 2015. The idea was to give them time to find new ones, for the companies to retool the old ones, for the ACA to codify everything. It was the decision of the companies to cancel - it had nothing to do with the ACA - because they wanted the money to pay for the new coverage. I find the President a person of great honor for saying "it's on me" when he in fact knows that he was screwed by the insurance companies - the greedy bastards.

Yes to my insurance company looking for every excuse and loophole not to cover a legitimate illness

(4,973 posts)I keep asking people who say they want to keep their current policy why? They either can't answer, or give some lame reason like "I like my Dr" as if the Dr won't take another policy. When you ask them to see their policy, you find they are paying a lot of money for virtually very little coverage. If someone truly has enough money to afford good coverage, they can bite me if they are upset at paying a little more. It's the top 5 pecent in a whine fest, AGAIN, as usual. Isn't the public sick of this crap yet? The media really sux on this issue too.
BlackOpz
(13 posts)True. The worst part is half the 5% whos rates went up qualify for subsidies so its only about 2.5% to 3% that are negatively impacted to benefit the other 97%. Good deal and waaaay better than the previous system.
cynzke
(1,254 posts)an important point. Even though 5% percent have been impacted in some way, doesn't mean in a worse way, but that is how its being presented in the media. These people whine about losing their insurance. They didn't. They are being offered enrollment in their insurance companies' new plans or they can shop. No one has lost the ABILITY to get health insurance. When Obama said you could keep your doctor, you can. There are several ways. Of those 5% whose plans were cancelled and replaced by new insurance policies, how many lost access to their doctors and how many of the new plans continued with the same network of doctors? Not everyone lost their doctors. And if some people actually lost their doctors, they can call their doctor and find out what insurance companies their doctor is working with and sign up with that insurance company. Worse comes to worse, pay to see your doctor out of your own pocket. The ability to see your doctor has not been taken away from you but insurance companies have say over whether they will or will not pay for that for you.
