Labels.....they can hold people back, unless they choose to ignore them

I have to thank my fellow Expat-Oklahoman CJ Cherryh for the link to this:

This Powerful 1-Minute Ad Will Never Be Shown in the United States.

CJ is actually Carolyn Cherryh, one of our better-known science-fiction writers. She adopted the initials 'CJ' instead of her name, decades ago to hide the fact that she's a woman, since publishers refused to believe that the public would buy SF novels written by a female writer. A number of 20th Century women SF writers had to do the same thing; 'CL Moore' is one that comes to mind.

I met Carolyn at science-fiction 'cons' a few times when we were both living in Oklahoma. She's a brilliant speaker, who can talk at length on any topic you can name.

Is my favourite sci-fi series.

And she is a delightful human being! I like this; it's a perfect encapsulation about what is wrong, still, with the world we live in.

I find that hard to believe. Seems that SF readers would be open to content and not worry because the words were written by a Female.

who don't believe a woman can write a science fiction novel that people will buy.

One word: "Frankenstein"
