and he's been telling us for decades but we still seem to collectively buy the propaganda of "grow the economy" and the "go forth and multiply in mass quantities" all along passing his message off as entertainment. After all, life is about entertainment and the right to keep making babies because sex is fun, right? Now we get to watch the demise of our species up close and personal... coming to your town soon.

We've been duped/seduced by the capitalists via their economists for a long time now and so the consequences are that we will have depleted the biosphere of life providing aspects in the near future because, like lemmings, we follow the crowds and fail to see the big picture.

Glad I'm already old.

My Canadian friends are always impressed that I'd even heard of him here in the States, much less owned one of his videos.

I'm pretty sure I learned about him from Amy on DemocracyNow!

On topic: Yes. It's a mess. And I don't see enough national investment in fixing it. But we bought a few more missiles instead. So we've got that going for us.

Kill a few, destabilize a government here and there to keep their poor angry at each other. Maybe sit on the cure to malaria. Knock a billion off here and there.

Just think a new land grab! Well, now that there are only a few folks left alive in countryX, it'd be a shame for their water, trees and energy sources to go untapped...

I hate it.

No one can stop it. At least I can't say who would be capable of stopping it.

They have too much money. Thousands of people working for these assholes know they're wrong in what they are doing. The Bush Tax cuts handed their side so much money to operate with. They used it to acquire media influence. The entire thing comes down to media control. This is why Fascists in the Reagan Administration fought to end the Fairness Doctrine. This was a long term plan.

I have an argument that goes back and forth with an former co-worker.

He honestly believes that the Forbes list is indeed the wealthiest people in the world. I try to explain, that's the wealthiest people who will allow themselves (or are arrogant enough to want) to be listed.

So he'll shout that Gates/Buffet/Slim are the richest. And I'll say, how many families in France, Germany, Japan, Russia, have maintained their wealth for centuries? Land ownership, many estates, private companies, etc. And yet, none of them are in the top 400? How strange.

The Bush tax cuts helped a lot of people below the top. Which made it easy to find idiots to do the work of the richest. Why would you shine attention on yourself when some jackass making $2M a year thinks he's actually rich. He makes 20x-50x what most of us make. But he thinks those changes are for him. So he'll lead the charge.

There's a lot of "rich" people who are going to be very upset when they figure out that they're of even less worth than us normal people. Rich folks don't make things, don't move things, don't fix things, don't clean things.

At this point the nation needs to restrict imports through tariffs. Emergency tariffs enacted now. Reinvigorate domestic non-military manufacturing. I'm a capitalist. But.

The USA tries to set a tariff, then the country that was dumping their under-cost products into our markets to kill our companies gets to sue us.

If we'd had even minimal protection of our emerging technology markets, China would not have been able to destroy a lot of US solar/wind design and production.

I totally agree that we should do that. I just think that we gave that ability away with Reagan/Bush/Clinton/Bush and if he allows the TPP to happen, then Obama's on that list.

I don't know how much manufacturing is going to save us. The last thing we need is more stuff. But it sure would be nice to be able to replace the crap we have now with locally made gear as the old stuff dies.
