During inauguration ceremonies for New York City’s new mayor, Bill DeBlasio, Reverend Fred Lucas Jr. tore into the nation’s racial inequality. Sounding a variety of themes echoing American slavery and the Civil War, the Brooklyn-based minister scoffed at the “plantation called New York City” and called for a new “Reconstruction” based on the post-Civil War federal occupation of the South.
