TYT: Prostitutes Cuffed, Forced Into Church, And Taxpayers Get Billed

"Rather than being taken to jail, sex workers apprehended on the streets of Phoenix, Arizona are being handcuffed and brought to a church, where they can decide if they would rather be incarcerated by the state or undergo diversion therapy.

The policy, known as Project ROSE, is a Phoenix program that, according to Vice News, has aimed to help more than 350 people since it began in 2011.

Police sweep the streets and browse the internet searching for prostitution listings. They may catch dozens of women during any given sting operation but, instead of hauling them into jail, the police handcuff them and bring them to the Arizona State School of Social Work.""* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

Program that enables women to interface with government programs to better their lives.....

What is bad about that? It doesn't sound any different than other diversions programs.

Employers have chapels in the workplace and force their workers to worship in them

The religious right has so much in common with Putin. They love him

Because a gratuitous slap at Russia (nice timing!) introduces a red-herring singing a jingoist's favourite tune?

Catholic Charities offers walking tours of the sketchy parts of town. Tender-hearted folk can gawk at sex workers. These excursions are like the slum tours beloved by Victorians. Popular enough in the 1890s to be listed in guidebooks, these tours of impoverished London neighborhoods gave a philanthropic gloss to the thrill of mingling with the poor in brothels, bars, and boarding houses. Then and now, participants got the self-satisfaction of pity mixed with the frisson of proximity to vice.

This cocktail may be why sex trafficking, as opposed to trafficking in maids or construction workers or farm labor, is always a fashionable cause.

Plus, you really can't call it charity when you are getting paid $1,500/day to do it.

Use the money to house the homeless and feed the hungry.

And funnel the money to a regressive social organization. Oh, maybe we aren't trying to solve problems but go back in time to when women did not have any choice and were shamed about what they had to do to get by. Legalize prostitution. Maybe we should be dragging the johns to the church and Sex Addicts Anon.
Oh and yeah, TAX RELIGION, END THE FREE RIDE ON THE GRAVY TRAIN OF HYPOCRISY.
