I'm so sad that Pres Carter didn't get a second term. That a terrible man got elected in his stead. A man who got elected in after back room dealings with Iran, and the sleaziest electoral tactics - and then got away with it. It's sad that Reagan's backers got away with it, and with all that Reagan did for them.

energy policies to stay with him. I was one of the worst days of my life as far as politics were concerned.

Despite what we already knew was wrong with Reagan, media and other venues went for the kill on Carter, in love with Reagan and touted his greed is good group taking over for the next 8 years.

We have never recovered.

There has been enough time to create an account - an argument.
So what, exactly, was the problem with "Carter's social policy" and "Carter's energy policy"?

it indeed was sad. I recall watching the returns on election night with a friend and his comment was to me "dig" (as in starting digging a bomb shelter because Reagan was going to take us to war. We didn't realize that the war was going to be class warfare, so focused on the working class as it was, but it was indeed so. The futures of the baby boomers were stolen under Reagan beginning with the PATCO strike and while Reagan is often credited with ending the Cold War, he was merely the office holder at the time, the best he contributed was his arms race, which pushed things along a little faster, pushing us heavily into debt for an enhanced military and bankrupting the USSR.

Honestly I was a bit disappointed that he didn't acknowledge the mistake of creating the Mujahhadin.
He kind of doubled down by saying we should become Ukraine's arms dealer.

Other than that all he said was excellent. The emphasis on women I think is right on.

by his failure to see the essential wrongness of that kind of enterprise. That kind of waging war.

It's a mistake or wrongness that haunts the world.

To me it reads more like someone who's trying to salvage "street creds" within the never-ever war-weary US, than anything else. Because it's put out there so bluntly, almost or the same as a brag, and not with what I'd consider a require caveat "...and we might've made some mistakes, there. We could've used a deeper analysis!"

Since so his loss is still hurting the US. President Carter has given the public much of his life. He has worked hard for Habitats and his compassion for others is visible. His new endeavor should do a lot for our world, protection of women around the world needs attention. Thank you President Carter for your efforts to help women.
