Thom Hartman asks Jimmy Carter, "I'm wondering, have we had a legitimately elected Republican president since Dwight Eisenhower?"
Carter chuckles and says he thinks so, but wouldn't want to comment on that, and then sort of backs off the question. Carter does make a point to say:
"I don't think that George W. Bush won the election in 2000, against Al Gore, because I think that he probably lost Florida and also nationwide. But the Supreme Court rules in our country - that's what we have to accept."

Instead, Bill gave us welfare 'reform,' the evil Defense of Marriage Act, NAFTA (which Gore heavily pushed for), GATT, permanent Most Favored Nation trading status for the butchers in Beijing, the 96 Telecommunications giveaway to Clear Channel and Sinclair, and on and on.
If they wanted liberal voters, they shouldn't have worked to enact the Republican agenda.
But, yeah, let's blame Ralph for the lack of enthusiasm for Gore.
The Dems took their voters for granted and ran a terrible campaign. With the nation at peace and the economy decent enough, that election should have been no contest. Dubya shouldn't have been able to get anywhere close enough to steal it.
And as for Roberts and Alito - not exactly fair to blame Ralph for that. Dems had the power to stop them both from getting on the court, but the voted to confirm and refused to block them.
And let's not forget Scalia was overwhelmingly confirmed by a Dem Senate. And Dems controlled congress when Thomas got through as well.

The statement of "that's what we have to accept" is a "do nothing" statement. I think that is wrong, I don't have a solution but somehow we need, as citizens, to find a way to repudiate decisions that affect us so much. I always ask my question, and I am sure many do as well, of what kind of World we would have today if the supreme court had not had it's dirty hand in the outcome of the 2000 election.
