in 1993. He obviously had been paying them since 1946, birth of BLM, or we would have heard about that by now. There was a very good reason...so good that it drove 52 other ranchers out of business...I do think it's too bad these militia types have moved in as it clouds the issues. However, OTOH, had they not moved in the cattle would all be hamburger by now. It's a mess....but a lot of money was made by the Department of the Interior since the mid 90's....has to give pause to anyone really willing to step back a bit before jumping on the anti-redneck bandwagon. imho

I'm usually in Paps corner but not on this because the regulations (law) he's defending was designed to throw the ranchers off the land in the first place. I think there's more to this than meets the eye and unfortunately the gov't and the media are forcusing on what they call insurrection to place attention in the wrong direction....again, imho.

Please read in the following link from page 164 The Desert Reorganiztion for about five pages in total length for a history of these "conservation" efforts in Clark County NV. I cannot copy and paste or 'snip-it' to put the information here.

Because it's irrelevant.

If you stopped paying your rent 10 years ago, would your landlord be asking Why?

The other red herring Bundy apologists keep bringing up is "What do the other ranchers have to say?"
Who cares? What do they have to do with it?

There has rarely been a more open a shut case. Bundy is a freeloader who stopped paying his fees and lost when it went to court 3? 4? times. Period.

Like the drug war, where people don't obey the laws, and they get busted. I guarantee you, if you're selling weed out of an apartment somewhere, and the government gets good evidence, they aren't going to be as kind to you as they were to Bundy. He's being handled with kid-gloves. Were he a drug-dealer, swat and a few hundred support troops would've been in there grabbing him, and anyone with a gun would've had big bloody holes in them.

Of course the drug users/sellers would have a far better case, than this guy. Just pay for the "feed" you get. So what if it's government land. If it were a neighboring ranch, and owned by a private individual, do you think they'd let you use it for free? Truth is, it doesn't matter that it's the federal government, he's basically feeding his cows for free, by grazing them on land that does not belong to him.

As most people know or, 'do not want to know, is, a turtle has been put on the endangered species list. Yet the real problem is not the turtle, it is the habitat that the turtle is lives in is being changed to the point of destroyed where nothing can live. There were a lot compromises by all parties involved, including the turtle. The compromises, just like the desert, is a fragile solution that seems to working to a certain extent. Unfortunately, it did not work out for the ranchers in area who wanted to introduce an non-native species (cattle) into the environment. Life happens!

As for the money you mentioned, most to all has been reinvested back into the community in one form or another (pg. 167 paragraph 4). What is the problem with that kind of turn-around, most of this seems to be common sense...

the big business builders and developers though? The BLM and Clark County is selective in choosing who can inflict harm. Actually, brush fires have done more damage to the plant life than anything and the grazing cows actually help the turtles in that regard. All these rules and regulations for the turtle ballooned into so much more and now (as of last November) Clark County is lamenting over its decisions. Well, welcome to more GMO fed beef.

Nope.

Brush fires are naturally occurring things for the area and so, the native species deal, and sometime depend on them.
