If the ACA gets struck down, healthcare reform is going to be considered politically radioactive for at least 20 or 30 years. There is no magical single-payer solution to that. Nobody will touch it.

and lower the age for Medicare eligibility to ZERO. With full coverage and a 3% overhead, nobody would ever buy private insurance again, thus driving all the HMOs out of business. No HMOs, no political resistance or lobby money to block a single payer system...and Bob's your uncle.
