100s of Activists Arrested At McDonalds Headquarters Protesting Low Wage Labor

MAY 22, 2014 – http://www.JTMP.org - My favorite civil rights activist right now, Rev. Dr. William Barber II, led over 100 activists in a march at the world headquarters of McDonald’s in Oak Brook, Illinois calling attention to the low pay that hard workers across the country face at minimum wage jobs, and in an act of civil disobedience sat down and got arrested for “trespassing” to show support for workers across the nation. Activists are concentrating and focusing on McDonald’s for two reasons. First, because of McDonalds size and influence, and secondly there is a annual shareholders meeting today at their “World Headquarters” (Death Star?) in Oak Brook. Bloomberg.com has a good piece up about how the McDonald’s worker makes $8.25 and hour, and the McDonald’s CEO makes $8.25 million dollars. Worker’s wages have gone flat, while McDonald’s profits have soared. The pay gap has gotten ridiculously huge, and it is time that we as a nation raise the minimum wage to what these activists are calling for: $15.00 an hour; and of course workers absolutely need the right to organize into unions, and collectively bargain for their rights. Corporations push for their rights through lobbyists and lawyers, so workers should have that same right also.

Leading the fight for this is millions of activists and thousands of organizations, and one of the best ones in my opinion is “Fight For $15!” or , “Lucha Por $15!”. They were out in full force yesterday in Illinois fighting for their fellow workers, and you can find out more about this org at their website FightFor15.org. The Chicago Tribune has some video of the protest, watch below.

Demotions or dismissal for those who don't play along with the facade of law.

the least amount of money possible for the most amount of work possible.

Get rid of capitalism and you get rid of the uber rich living off of the workers of society.

As long as you have capitalism the necessities for living are distributed based upon wealth and NOT what is fair, practical, efficient or logical. With capitalism you will always have the uber rich destabilizing peaceful societies. The capitalist will continue to pay starvation wages while the mass of citizens pick up the cost to support those woefully underpaid workers.

A high percentage of cops are ex-military which is historically conservative. We never try to reach out to either group. I work a lot with a Texas police organization and every year at their annual convention either Governor Perry, or Greg Abbott, the Texas AG running for Governor against Wendy Davis, is the featured speaker. I am about the only democrat they know and I get a lot of grief for it. The encouraging thing is that some of these cops will confide that they vote for Democrats, but are too afraid to make it public for fear of reprisal from their co-workers. We should try to make it clear enough to more of them that their party does not have their back.
We will need them in the coming battles for control over this country. The Oligarchs cannot stay in power if enough of us come out. If the police are not there to intimidate the protestors, more will come out. I am realistic that this change of attitude will not affect a majority of cops, but enough of them to make some difference. I do not want to concede that any group is our enemy in toto. I would take some double agent cop's help telling me their plans. It is just very difficult to overcome the programming, as anyone who ever tried to convince a "Ditto Head" that they are wrong about Rush Limpballs knows, but it can be done.

...but I've seen too much police brutality in my life, and as you know, the military and police professions tend to appeal to a certain kind of personality, one that is authoritarian in nature to begin with.

I agree that they need to have it pointed out to them that their ox is going to be gored next. But they are too useful to the oligarchs who run this country - they are the oligarch's "private army", as Bloomberg said about the NYPD.
