This is a baby hummingbird I rescued after it was attacked.
The song is "Better Together" by Jack Johnson.
UPDATE!!! when she thought she was ready to leave (and she was) she flew off to her favorite patch of the back yard, and her instincts instantly kicked in, and now she's just like all the other hummingbirds. for those that are concerned that she has imprinted on humans and wouldn't survive in the wild, don't worry, she is thriving. she has even successfully migrated and returned back to my yard. and for those who think i didn't know what i was doing, i did NOT feed her plain sugar water. i went outside 3 times a day and caught flies from my compost bin (be green people) in big bags, crushed them, and mixed them in as well. I also helped her learn to catch flies while flying (not in the video because the flies were too small). It was a pretty hectic but very rewarding experience and, in the end, i don't think it could have worked out any better

monster. Yes, I watched what you were doing closely. You were meticulous and yet caring. You should go into some field where you are providing medical services to living things. You honestly care. We have hummingbird feeders and the birds come around the house starting in mid-spring. I stare at them; they are marvelous creatures. Again, good job. I'm burning the video and giving it to my wife top show her Alzheimer's patients at show-and-tell when the entertainment folks come.

I do rescue animals, but so far, I have only kept the feline and canine types. I have rescued birds who were injured, but took them to avian experts as I don't have the knowledge or facilities to care for them.

Seriously, with six cats on the premises at present, that little birdie might have lasted fifteen seconds at best.

The main one is that most people screw up the sugar to water ratio and that's critical for a baby bird. Second is, that at this early stage they are also eating regurgitated pieces of insect parts. That protein would be important to their development.

And the one question I wonder, is what cage does he put the bird in to make sure it doesn't come to him while he's asleep, where he might roll over and smash it, or step on it by accident?

Otherwise, this kid is remarkable. That looks like a lot of love between those two.

Most amazing experience, it was caught by a cat, not badly hurt but we kept it for a few days til it could really fly. We crushed mealworms and added them to the sucrose mix and fed the baby almost constantly. Thank heaven they literally go dormant at night! We let the little one (not sure the sex as it was so young) perch in a branch after a couple of days and self feed and one day "she" was gone. A little miracle!

are the only reason I have a minuscule hope that we can survive as different cultures, races and religions. Very, very small hope. Cute little bird. Hope it makes it.
