(18,402 posts)He's just trolling for votes from the crazies. He knows doing this would be disastrous in the larger scheme of things.

(17,505 posts)I used to think this was obvious.
But now.... I'm not so sure. Sometimes, people start to believe their own ca-ca.

(186 posts)When a rightwing Walmart worker dies from lack of Obamacare that McConnell killed, or Medicaid expansion, then and only then will we see real change.

(53,661 posts)If they are RWers, they will see it as Obama's fault. I don't see any upside to dismantling the only improvement people have had. They can wave some red meat in front of their followers and they will just accept the way things were, kill the poor and the well-off will keep on supporting them. Even the RWers helped don't respect the principle of inclusion.

John Oliver NAILED that guy.

(53,661 posts)Wish they had a channel. Now when I go to CSPAN to see the POTUS speak, they want me to buy a DVD or pay for the video or audio, for just a few minutes of stuff. The commericalization of news impedes learning. Sure, Oliver's show is not news and they have a station to watch it on, but youtube is where videos play for me. Nice to know Oliver is on this.
Whine over.

(135,425 posts)Here is my thread on the topic
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1017191696
Some of the videos were taken down, sadly--the campaign commercial re: gelding, particularly.
and here's the link to the JO bit (It's DM, but those play pretty well, hope you can see it):

And, lest I forget...FAIR WARNING!! There's fiddly bits in that link!!! Anyone who doesn't know what fiddly bits are, they're north of the knees and south of the belly button!!!!!!!!!!! So.... NSFW--of course, if you're on the company internet at work, you'd better watch out because if you've got time to watch videos during the workday, you just might be replaced in this cruel corporate environment!!!!
(That's not directed at you--if you look at the original thread you'll see what I mean!!!)

(53,661 posts)Yes, those cranky old things at youtube! The favorite way to censor there is with copyright which prevents people sharing with others what they'd never know. It's one thing to restrict movies, etc. but news clips are being paid to be viewed by paying to be online anyway.
The copyright police can restrict their own revenue that way. They are only ephermal items, after a short time they are worthless, overtaken by other views. They are usually flagged not by the owners of the content, but by people who don't want the word to get out.
They aren't viewed again except to disprove what a politican is saying never happened. Another form of scrubbing the net.
And it is often done to restrict criticism or outing of RWers. The video with Paul Ryan and his racist supporters outlining their plan to have enough red states to call for having a Constitutional convention to repeal the 14thA to keep 'those people' from becoming citizens is what they say they want. But they'll strip us of Due Process and Equal Protection under the Law with that, too.
This thread of what Turtle and Cheetos advocate, getting rid of the 17th plus others, won't stop there. They'll take away women's rights to vote.
Sad that DUers say they won't vote to stop this after the daily doses of swallowing RF101. Just another part of the 'Keep 'em in the dark and feed 'em bullshit' RW plan.
BTW, I am grateful for people willing to link back to other posts, OPs and the like here. One can't be everywhere and we can miss good stuff.

No, not KY..... DC. It might as well be on another planet. Add to that the Conservative cocoon within the bubble.

If NM can get rid of Domenici, KY can get rid of McConnell, although I don't see the latter faking senility to avoid prosecution like the former did.

(5,106 posts)Of all the values my parents taught me; of all the values I tried to impart as both a parent and a teacher, making fun of someone because of his appearance was one of the biggest no-nos. Then along comes someone like Mitch McConnell, a proudly vile and bigoted one percenter stooge. He can no more help looking like Yertle the Turtle than Nixon could help looking like a crook. However, when you're proud of being a "dick, as is Mitch; you just Bring It! Working against the country and citizens due to hating the choices they voted for (and feeling justified to do so if your party can take over both houses of Congress), then feeling superior enough to brag about your plan...just shows how little respect he has for the intellect of the average voter. I wish I had a little more faith, but I sincerely hope he's as wrong as the Republicans were in 2012. On the phones that year for the Democrats, I wasn't the least surprised that Romney took a drubbing. Being much more unattractive on the inside than the outside takes some doing, but Mitch seems up to the task. I'm putting in time, rather than money into state and local politics. I'm hoping to scare up at least a small contribution to Grimes, however.

(314 posts)you damn well go ahead and shut down the government and when you do you and all the others idiot right wing politicians who vote for a government shut down will not get a paycheck or health insurance. As a taxpayer I'm damn sick and tired paying wages for deadbeat politicians.

(24,720 posts)All I have to say is that if we the people are the government we vote for the government which we want and if we the sane of this government allow both houses to fall into the hands of the republicans like it was done in the Supreme Court you might has welcome the return of the robber barons of years ago in full rape mode and pillage mode.
Some of us have been paying into all the above entitlements for over 45 years and if they privatize all the above we might as well bend over and kiss are a** good-bye, plain and simple.
We have been under attack since Ronald Reagan got into power and it has been going down hill ever since and that is a fact.
Like Bernie Sanders ?Thom Hartmann have said and I am paraphrasing: involvement in democracy is not a spectator sport we the people have to be involved and tag you are it, go out and vote and get involved.
