Mike Rowe Explains The Skills Gap In USA Education System

There are many excellent blue-collar jobs out there... many of which pay better than jobs requiring college degrees! I held a security job which paid roughly $28/ hour that required no degree. That's nearly 60k a year! Which, frankly, is better than a considerable number of jobs which require 4 year degrees.

If I hadn't torn an ACL, I'd still be working there.

"The overall average starting salary for Class of 2013 new college graduates currently stands at $45,327, an increase of 2.4 percent over the reported average of $44,259 for Class of 2012 graduates, according to the September 2013 Salary Survey"

Though after I blew my ACL, I decided I'd go your rout and get into computer programming... figure maybe I'll go become a pen tester.

multiply by 2080 standard work hours for the year...which comes out to $58,240 before taxes.
