Over the years Care2 petitions have helped bring about significant changes to national and international issues alike.

Citizen activist Tom Hutchings witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by the British Petroleum (BP) deepwater horizon oil spill disaster back in 2010, so after hearing recently about what the State of Alabama is trying to do with $58 million of the reparation money BP owes to fix the environment (hint: it’s not good for wildlife), he was inspired to take action, so he started this petition.

Five days after the BP oil spill disaster, Tom, a volunteer pilot with Southwings, took one of the first non-profit flights over the disaster, which led to these photos, taken just days after the rig exploded and more than 200 million gallons of crude oil were pumped into the Gulf of Mexico for a total of 87 days, making it the biggest oil spill in U.S. history.

Southwings is a non-profit conservation organization that takes people up in the air to see environmental challenges in a way no one bound to the earth can. The organization provides a network of volunteer pilots to advocate for the restoration and protection of the ecosystems and biodiversity of the Southeast U.S. through flight.

TAKE ACTION!

Tom Hutchings’ petition aims to ensure that none of the money BP owes to fix the environment should be spent to harm the environment: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/883/338/243/?TAP=1007&cid=causes_petition_postinfo

If something strikes you as unjust, do what Tom did; start a Care2 petition. It’s easy, free and effective!

ensued over the reparations money. The article refers to the "20 million dollar fund" BP supposedly "put aside." The sad truth that no one reports is that there was NEVER a 20 billion dollar fund. BP originally agreed to put in over a million every quarter into a fund to settle claims processed by Ken Feinberg and the Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF). After Judge Barbier ruled that Ken Feinberg had never been "independant" as he claimed on TV and numerous town hall meetings, and was "always BP's representative," BP bribed the Plaintiff's Steering Committee (PSC), hand picked by the judge, with a $660,000,000 "Common Benefit Fund" which the PSC only gets if the vast majority of claimants get trapped in the Class Action Settlement, and that settlement makes it to completion without being overturned. This settlement is denying 75% of the victim's claims while BP plays the victim. The "Gross Negligence" finding only applies to the government's claims and not the victims. The PSC is doing everything to protect this terrible settlement in order to collect the $660 million, victims be damned!
The government should have required BP to resolve all of the victim's claims before they could drill again. As it stands, BP will slow the settlement down even more to spread out paying the government's fine ($18,000,000,000), so the over 100,000 victims left to be resolved will likely not see anything at all for several more years, if ever.
That is what is really going on with the worst oil spill in U.S. History, corruption and lies. Right now around the well site, scientist have recently discovered much of the missing 2 million barrels of oil lies on the bottom of the Gulf in an area twice the size of the city of Houston, one of the most spread out cities in the country! BP used the Corexit to sink the oil out of sight to make it harder to determine how much oil spilled, and thus reduce their per barrel fine.
This is the most disgusting, corrupt litigation I have ever seen. Do not believe the BS from BP! They are the biggest advertiser in the Gulf Coast so none of the media outlets will write the stories of what is really taking place in this part of the United States!
