Ring of Fire: Midterm Losses a Teachable Moment For Progressives

Democrats are hanging their heads after this past week’s midterm elections, and they should. There shouldn’t have been any reason for the Democratic Party to lose ground in this election, but they did. In some races, they were defeated by candidates who make Forrest Gump look like a Rhodes Scholar. The Democratic Party was defeated by anti-science, anti-LGBT, anti-women, anti-minority, and anti-government candidates in races all over the country.

The next two years are looking pretty bleak at this point.

Or are they? Would things be any different if the Democrats had won a majority in both Houses of Congress?

But you can't teach people when they don't want to learn, and I think the corporate wing of the party don't want to learn.

To them winning is not as important as keeping the cash flowing to them and theirs...and the corporate world pays well and on time.

when the effects of all that money that bought this election take effect. It will make no difference Democrats prefer to sit home and whine.

I had to stopped at the 2.53 mark, the party shouldn't be blame for ignorant voters and lazy non-voters, unfortunately we will suffer the consequences of GOP policies being enacted, but that is not on us. It is on the dummies who voted GOP.

You blame ignorant and lazy non-voters? Have you considered why are they "ignorant" and "lazy" and "non-voters"? Because you need to give them a reason to listen, to be motivated and to get out and vote. And the Democratic Leadership are not giving them any of those things.

What part of that can't you understand? If you don't give the people what they want, why would they listen and get out and vote for you?

FFS, it's not that hard.

Democrat leaning citizens don't want corporate backed representatives. They want true progressives.

Like Elizabeth Warren and Alan Grayson. Not Republican Lite.

Someone said it best in another thread - "Hope and Change" used to be an inspiration for Democrats. Now it is just a phrase of ridicule.

The Democratic leadership never had the guts (or were never really committed) to actually implement "change".

it becomes an experience.....

Totally agree with this thread - the debacle of last night was totally predictable as stated by Paul Jay on the eve of 2010 election. Can't improve upon his words, so here he is

But I agree with other responses to this thread in that the Democratic leadership hasn't in the past and doesn't want to listen.

Tell that to all the Judicial nominees who will not get a vote in the Senate during the next 2 years. And God help us if something happens to one of the SCOTUS 4.

He gave the dems voters a REASON to go vote in 2008. Give them nothing and you get nothing. GOP always give their racist base a REASON (racism and fear) to go vote.
Dems will never learn. run Hillary and you will see another 50% of dem voters stay home in 2016.
