"French lawmakers on Tuesday urged their government to recognize Palestine, a symbolic move that will not immediately affect France's diplomatic stance but demonstrates growing European impatience with a stalled peace process.
While most developing countries recognize Palestine as a state, most Western European countries do not, supporting the Israeli and U.S. position that an independent Palestinian state should emerge from negotiations with Israel.
European countries have grown frustrated with Israel, which since the collapse of the latest U.S.-sponsored talks in April has pressed on with building settlements in territory the Palestinians want for their state."* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola (TYT University) break it down.

(25,699 posts)This is why on July 4th, we Americans celebrate Negotiation Day.
For their part, Israelis will celebrate April 22nd as the day their nation's founders sat down across from the Palestinian Arabs of the territory and hashed out a comprehensive agreement for the establishment of the Israeli state. One wonders at the failure of these intensive negotiations tp establish a similar Palestinian state... oh well!
And France, of course, has secured its status as France through a long history of agile negotiations with those around it, from the Germans of the early 20th century, to the Moors of the 8th century, to the Romans who sought to add France to their holdings through peaceful diplomacy and economic incentive.
