Facts Surrounding the Freedom (Clock) Square Sit-In Massacre in Homs on the dawn of 4/19/2011
Until this moment, the number of martyrs that fell on that historical night in Homs remains unknown. Some sources suggest hundreds were killed while others claim it was dozens. As the massacre took place a call was placed by an eye witness to the BBC station, the man relayed that he had witnessed the killing and injury of hundreds. More importantly is the account of a defected soldier who participated in the massacre and who later managed to flee to Lebanon, he reported to Human Rights Watch and said:
-Tens and tens of deaths and injuries took place. This same soldier stated in a television interview that between 200 and 300, including the first and second row of the sit-in, fell to the ground when the gunfire began
-Security elements resorted to placing martyrs and those injured in a large truck using a bulldozer, which were brought to the scene beforehand. This indicates that the regime intended to disperse this sit-in with force and at any price!!! The injured and martyred were relocated to the Military Hospital in Homs
-This massacre was committed by forces from the Airforce Intelligence with the support of military forces (military intelligence) and police officers. Colonel Abdelhamid Ibrahim of the Airforce Intelligence was in command of the shooting. The management of this operation was entrusted to the Dean of Military Intelligence, Hafez Makhlouf's brother, Rami Makhlouf, a cousin of Bashar Al-Assad
What makes this massacre stranger than any other massacre committed by the Assad regime is that the regime admitted to having committed the massacre the following day, describing the protesters as Salafists and Takfeerists (those who call others disbeliebers), as though Salafists and Takfeerists do not deserve a trial, but rather should be killed immediately!!!
Many people claim that the number of those martyred and injured in this massacre was small and the large numbers were exaggerated, however, if the situation is examined in a logical manner it would be noted that the gunfire began at the beginning of Qootli Street in the direction of the protesters while the videos taken during the massacre were taken from the direction of Dablan. This resulted in a large number of fallen protesters which mobile phone cameras were unable to capture.
