The war of occupation that Putin started continues on its dangerous path
AN enormous fireball has ballooned over the Ukrainian city of Donetsk after a chemical plant was hit sending some into a nuclear panic.
The powerful explosion sparked widespread fires outside the separatist stronghold of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, where fierce fighting has surged despite a renewed diplomatic push for peace.
In Washington, President Barack Obama held talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel about reviving an elusive Ukraine peace plan, a meeting that comes as she and French President Francois Hollande are getting ready to meet tomorrow with their counterparts from Russia and Ukraine.
Nuclear shock rocks Ukraine
The day after ... Initial fears this blast was caused by a nuclear weapon were dispelled when it was found to have been a chemical plant hit in fighting between Ukrainian government and separatist forces: Source: Supplied Source: Supplied
ENORMOUS BLAST
No casualties or damage were immediately reported from the huge blast at the plant in Donetsk, which the rebels said was hit by government shelling. The city lies in the middle of Ukraines industrial heartland and explosions like this have long been feared.

(16,974 posts)and that election was monitored by the international community and found to be free and fair and met international norms. This was after the previous President abdicated his position and was removed by the democratically elected Rada, even his own political party voted to remove him after he left after days of packing his valuables.

(3,982 posts)and our orwellian press call is fair and free? The population was scared to death which is why the participation rate was lower than anything since the USSR collapsed. So people who used to vote for the parties (that represented half the population) that were outlawed did not show up either from fear or because they did not feel they had a chance.
How exactly did the current government, which is at best akin to our tea party, win an honest election when the same people never won elections previously?
The fact that this was reported as an honest election shows how dishonest both media and worldwide governments have become.

(16,974 posts)voting by the "pro-Russians" have open seats and they will be filled when free and fair elections can happen. Not the fault of Ukraine that the "pro-Russians" threatened voters and poll workers with death and destroyed the ballot boxes.
The UN seems to think the people voted for him.
The Secretary-General spoke this morning to Mr. Petro Poroschenko, the President-elect of Ukraine.
The Secretary-General congratulated Mr. Poroschenko on having received a strong mandate from the people, who expect him to move quickly to steer the country away from political, economic and social instability and towards security, greater prosperity and genuine democratic governance.
The Secretary-General said that he was encouraged by Mr. Poroschenkos commitment to de-escalation and dialogue which will be critical within Ukraine, as well as with its neighbours.

they were voted in free and fair, by the way the far right gained very few seats. Most under the 5% margin for representation.
Too bad the facts and 99% of the world do not agree with your view and live by the actual facts of what happened.

(151 posts)BLEVE is the acronym for boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion. Sort of like a fuel air explosive caused by the detonation of a burning tank. The video below shows the process. The BLEVE section is the part of emergency responder training that is best for keeping folks awake. Depending on the pressure, volatility, size of tank, chemical present, you can get a whopper of an explosion/fireball/mushroom cloud.
This is the reason for the rule of thumb. If you can see a tank is on fire, and you can't blot it out with your thumb (held at arm's length), you are too close.

(15,888 posts)Are you trying to say that a propane tank caused this massive explosion?
Bugenhagen
(151 posts)No, I don't think it was propane. The same principle works with other energetic chemicals, and much bigger tanks. A BLEVE is just a way that you can get a disproportionately large detonation and fire ball from chemical explosion. To me it looked more like a BLEVE than a nuclear explosion. It had way too much flame for high explosives, in my opinion. Being as reports say it occurred at a chemical plant, and it seemed to be a single explosion, then a BLEVE seems reasonable.

(3,982 posts)There was great concern when shells landed near this chemical plant last August. Seems that Kiev eventually could not resist.
