The fact is that those of us who are white and recognize this as a serious issue have a responsibility to point this out to other white people pretty much all the time. It may feel inconvenient or awkward at first, but I think we should trade a little unease to help turn the tide and help our fellow human beings with different skin tones feel less terror when the flashing lights of a police car go off behind them.
