partly because of its location anywhere on the South Side, to see that black history is American history, that will be the deeper perspective that American history textbooks have yet to show.

both Washington Park and Jackson Park (we aren't sure which site they will choose.) I think it's great to have easy access for tourists to have the Obama Library near the DuSable Museum.

makes it a lot, lot easier for tourists to actually see. The lakefront's my preference from an aesthetic p.o.v. But if the Obama Library were near the Du Sable Museum, good signage would also help both sites get more tourists (because the Du Sable is actually pretty hard to see from the street) and there is more available parking away from the lakefront.

Still -- and only because I'd like to lobby for the beauty of the first black president's library on the shore of one of the Great Lakes -- this mayor's building a whole new harbor on the south shoreline, complete with parking, restaurant and promontory overlook proves there's plenty more space for a library, as well. It would look grand overlooking Lake Michigan. I've cycled up and down this area for thirty years and don't see anyone having less use of the lakefront over a library and foundation there.

Anyway, I'm glad Chicago got the site.
